Re: Base gone under

I don't know about you but I can not believe that most Aussie factories have no ability to make boards with the same technology as imported ones, guys like Speedneedle, Dan McDonald and Diverse show there is a quid to be made in making them..... You just have to have the ability to make them. A qui...

Re: Base gone under

Hey Ric, surfboards are subject to import duty and GST. No import concessions apply.. There is a free trade agreement with Asia. Due to the massive amount of exports we send to China there will never be a tariff on imports when our economy is underpinned by exports to them. This means no import dut...

Ha ha bull shark, try mako/tiger/white/massive fcuken whales farting and spitting all around you. Hahaha. How's this Nick. After 10 Molokai's and a life in the Ocean Jamie Mitchell told me he seen his first ever shark this year. It knocked off his rudder. Bull sharks are scary though, much safer in...

Re: jet bottom surfboards

There were quite a few of them around here under Murrays Bourtons PIPEDREAM label. I had one I bought second hand off a mate when I was 13. It went insane, as described a very frictionless feeling. This was a belly channel Jet bottom. Murray later told me that the feedback was unreal from everyone b...

Re: the boy in bali on pot charges

Just read this whole thread and was relieved to see someone actually understands how it works. It is like this throughout SE Asia, they buy their own uniform even and get paid very low wages as it is expected to be paid bribes. The buy pot off someone in the street and then be busted trick is one of...

I agree with Nick, racing Ski, Ocean Ski or an OC1 are amazing in the ocean when there is no swell. Even better when it's completely blown out and no swell you can paddle from one place to another surfing the wind bumps the whole way. If you want to make it harder work paddle upwind first and then t...

Re: epoxy

RR Kwik kick is OK. Best used as a filler coat. It has serious issues laminating PU foam. Do not do this. It also browns quickly, much more so than RR regular. The normal RR is a good speed but browns more than Kinetix which people find too slow. No great middle ground??? Apparently the issue is wit...

Re: epoxy

It doesn't smell. If stinking your house out is something you look forward to Poly may be best. Or is it the smell of Pro-tec that you are smelling?? That is the smell of new boards, stinks out your car. Love it, you can use it on Epoxy boards if you need to as well. I work regularly with Epoxy in m...

Re: epoxy

PU Foam and Epoxy Resin: The flex and feel of a traditional surfboard, the durability and ability to work greater with new technologies. EPS is a pretty average core on its own really, it's main advantage is that it is light so you can add more layers of cloth and hence strength. Of course it works ...

Re: how long till- you can't buy a locally built board

Yep Mah hit it on the head. This is what happens. Problem is when he reflects on the margins for his $20K up front plus import costs for the container he works out he would have been better off using his $20K for something else. Heaps of these guys have come and gone. A lot of the retailers like Sid...

Re: how long till- you can't buy a locally built board

Great thread. Many good points. My belief is that the local shapers have not been out priced but out marketed also. The real reason Asian boards have proliferated is a viscous circle with no easy solution. Peoples buying habits have changed, people want instant gratification. They troll the net scou...
