Re: Pipe Masters 2017

I spent about 3 days watching Pipe and decided that for someone of my ability it was effectively a closeout.
I went and surfed Chuns with a bunch of 8yos.

There was a high surf advisory at the time, and nobody at all in the water at Pipe.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

The alley for the arvo shift, pushing kids (mine and some extras) onto half-foot rollers on the inside. I'm knackered from dragging and chasing them all over the bank, they had a blast. Went out and tried to catch a few myself afterwards, but the howling wind and ferocious ebb tide weren't doing the...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I like them in summer boards for drive or for the point and shoot barrels where you don't turn, but generally prefer thruster for good waves and single for covering ground.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I'm not sold on the idea.

I only have one board with a 5 fin setup, that green one linked above, but never really been tempted to try it as a thruster.

Nick and leej beat me.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Iggy, this is my HPT for the weekend warrior (not the green summer board) http://forum.realsurf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19546&p=608322&hilit=Thruster#p608322 6'0"x19 1/2"X 2 1/2" (roughly) 31l, roughly. Stretched to 6'2" would be perfect. It was custom but has the Mick Fanning rocker curve. T...

The new midlength ones were from a plug by some Frenchie from Hossegor. Didn't look at the 9'0".

Re: Best softboard to use to teach kids ???

Was interesting to see Bic surfboards in the store too.
Haven't seen any new ones for 15 years, didn't think they still made them.

Decent v and chined rails. Rails didn't look quite as sharp as the originals. Shapes looked decent.
A 7'6" was $430.

I know Steve's a fan.

Re: Best softboard to use to teach kids ???

As tempting as it was to drive an hour to the coast and wait in loofy's front yard for the hard rubbish days, or spend a few weekends at the Ballina dump, I decided to just buy some instead. Ended up with Softlite boards. They'll double as the beaters that go on camping trips and surf a couple of cl...

Re: Best softboard to use to teach kids ???

So is the El Nino range still the go? My kids are 8 and 7, strong swimmers and are just starting to ride waves to the sand after being pushed onto them on my wife's 7'4". Kids are about 140cm and a bit over 30kg. Do I go the 6'0" range and get them paddling in themselves? Or stick with something lon...

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

There's a remote pool that only fills in wet seasons that I've been eyeing off for 5 years, should be primed for my Christmas visit.

Have you gone to that drain we chatted about? Lots of giant herring being caught on the Goldy at the moment.

Re: Bribie Island Board Riders

Given the shoreline of Southern Bribie has shifted around by 30-40m over the last 50 years due to cycles of erosion and accretion, the chance of it being the same tree is diabolically small.

What can the local indigenous people teach us about talking romantic whimsy out our arse, Steve?

At your age you're lucky they didn't have a copy of your DNR.

Seriously, good luck to both of you.
