Re: F******g J*w
I reckon thats bullshit... Dane, jordy, Taj, Kerrzy are incredibly consistent (Kerrzy just doesnt have the rail act). What about those young Brazo kids? So many guys have got through heats by simply getting better waves in the past and having a good smart strategy ie kieran perrow consistency isn't...

Re: F******g J*w
Wanna see some real trickery? Go look in the dustbin of clips for most modern surf dvds. You'll see more wipeouts and dud turns than you'd believe possible. For every golden moment there's 20 flounders. being in Tonga at the same time as some billabong pros was eye-opening in this regard. most of t...

Chas is a talented writer...but I doubt those are his words. Someone pulling the strings here.. And you reckon that Mick said this, completely on his own? ''I acknowledge that my decision to use words that were inappropriate - albeit in an attempt to be ironic, knowing they were of the type favoure...

Re: Parko V Dane QF
I would like to see Kafka at Bells. as would i. in fact, if you could conduct all interviews in a cockroach suit, drinking rye, and sitting with your legs through the rails at the top of the cliff i think that would add to the experience. given kafka never wanted his stuff published, and dane doesn...

Re: local shapers vs big names..
big brand names or otherwise.. sure, the shapes and designs/designers themselves might be great, but the construction isn't always that good.. been looking at Merrick Pods in the secondhand racks for about 9 months, after my brother got one and is raving... haven't found a symmetrical one yet. the ...

the fish market is open again, just have to go between 5 and 6:15. it is now closing most years over the Dec-Jan period when it is most busy. Otherwise it is all good, as long as you play by the rules. no flash photos, smoking etc. if you can afford it, get some otoro, the fatty bit of the bluefin b...

Re: the young clubbie killed at the aust titles on the goldy
don't think Gaths would work, pretty sure they only cover scratches, not impacts. maybe the lifejacket vest things that wakeboarders and towsurfers would help. but i don't think that is the issue. i fully recognise the skills involved in paddling those craft. even as a former flatwater kayaker, the ...

Don't they have a caddy out there with a spare. I thought they used to do that, and certainly in some comps they have. don't know if the rules have changed recently, but the year before last at Sunset the announcer said they had to stop using caddies because they were getting lost out at sea. think...

Re: now i've seen everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christ, and we thought SUPs were bad. in my defence, I was at least an hours boat trip away from any surfers, and a good 1/2nm offshore. the place has a strong tidal current that forces the groundswell to stand up. can be bloody hairy at times with standing waves 3 ft high. the bloke doing it at ti...

Living where I do at the moment I've got 90 miles of pretty much dead straight coast, surely there's something that would cause certain stretches of it to work better than others at different times? bgreen gives you some good pointers in their post. another idea is to find some old beach fishermen,...

haven't been to fuji. mates who did it said it was harder than expected, and temperatures changed a lot from start to finish. in tokyo, have to go see the shibuya intersections in peak hour. will trip you out. roppongi if you are into that sort of thing. good normal bars too. akihabura (sp?) - elect...

Re: World First
as far as i understand, it works by measuring the wave height from a vidcap in pixels, then using the distance from the camera and some trig they work out the height. can't see how it would work at all well unless it was perfectly perpendicular, so swell direction will be pretty critical. i'd want i...
