Re: "Front foot" vs "back foot" surfers?
as per NC's comment, I definitely have too much weight on the back foot. I can't skate, learnt all my board skills on snow and water. if you've been snowboarding, and you like the groomed slopes and bog in powder, you're probably a front foot surfer. If, like me, you are twice as good a rider offpis...

Re: Finless.Derek hynd, ridiculous!!!!!
not exactly new stuff, people have been surfing finless for a while. Chris Won/Taloa surfed bodyboards standup, if in a very lame way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwPThVpWBQ4 even if DH is surfing better (and he'd want to be, a bodyboard on a pus wave compared to fibreglass at J-bay), it's still ...

Re: ever made a board you just want to smash with an axe?
never made a board, but done a few repairs...only on my own stuff i was fixing a longboard that had depressed under the back foot and cracked the glass over the stringer. all was going well, cut the glass off and let it dry out for a few days, then scuffed it up, filled up to the right level with so...

Re: Riding Motor Bike in Bali
Its weird yeah, when ever I ask people about what they pay for shit in Bali I rarely get a response, like its frikin secret squirrel or something. hey maggot might not be that they don't want to answer, just can't be arsed because there are so many factors... it really depends on: where you are (ba...

Re: cool vids
just watched the first one.
there are some stupidly big airs in there, and some guys were going figs to the wall, but what % of rides were made? lots of clips of people trying to ride too deep and getting worked, or dropping in too late and eating it.

Re: cool vids
dunno anything about the boards, but I have a BSD big wave leash that is probably at least 12 years old.GAV!N wrote:A few of my mates had BSD boards, they all fell to pieces.
pulled the plug through 3 boards, snapped the cord once, never even came close to breaking the leash.

Re: Buying / Insuring and driving your own vehicle USA
yeah, i had the same. sucks to think that after going to the consulate and jumping through all their hoops it can all come down to the one sitting at the desk when you get there... dress nice, and keep talking about how much money you're going to spend on your roadtrip.... sounds like you have got i...

Re: Buying / Insuring and driving your own vehicle USA
I thought the U.S. was "special" and to prevent overstayers they didn't count Canada or Mexico as valid for restarting visa durations? think you're right, actually. last few times i've been on different visas, but think NAFTA did scotch a few of those options. Costa Rica has surf...and flights in t...

Re: Buying / Insuring and driving your own vehicle USA
think rego might be the challenge, you normally need a local licence for that, which needs a SSN or at least a local address. If you got a buddy over there you can use theirs. with their permission of course, as it is dodgy and they are more strict these days... try out all the DMVs for the states y...

Re: Buying / Insuring and driving your own vehicle USA
local licence means doing the test, you have to do the written one first, then drive around the block and try not to speed... actually, thinking back, you needed a SSN to do the written test... doh! it's not impossible to get a SSN, you just need work authorisation and a reason to be there. and to n...

Re: Buying / Insuring and driving your own vehicle USA
hey mate you'll probably struggle without a social security #, i'm assuming you won't have one? doesn't mean it'll be impossible, but it's harder. particularly legally. the SSN is used on all forms, so without it they don't know what to do with you. I had one from a stint in the ski-fields when i wa...

Re: Wrap your eyeballs around this:
curved fins do provide some benefits but with some differences ( some would say negatives depending on how you wish to surf I guess ), about 10 years ago in indo all the decent japanese surfers had those curved fcs front fins on their good-wave boards. i've never used them, but they reckoned that i...

Re: Creating an Indonesian bank account? can an Australian?
as far as i know, Commonwealth Bank has local (indo) branches, so even if you are accessing an aussie account you don't pay any fees. my mate who lives there gets paid into and uses his CBA account. don't think he has an indo account, and he has been there for 3+ years... used to use travellers cheq...

Re: Riding Motor Bike in Bali
rode bikes around bali and lombok, great experience particularly in the areas where you are cruising through rice paddies. wouldn't do it again though, last few times just organised a car with driver for a week or so. if you get the same bloke for a few days it works out the same price between a cou...

good onya. now go to sleep, you're gonna need it. the first 3 weeks are not fun. amazing, but like being badly jetlagged for a month. after that it eases up and gets more interesting every day. iggy has some good book suggestions. if you're in nsw you'll probably go to an early childhood centre too....

beery, i love your work. open mind and active sanding arms. but i agree with fong, the rails are probably going to be a challenge. i don't know anything about paipos, bellyboards or anything like that and i'm not a design guru, but i did ride a bodyboard for 15 years  bodyboards typically hav...

Paddling 'Stance'
so, been thinking about this one for a while. bit convoluted, so hope it makes sense. i've got a theory that the way your body is positioned while paddling determines where you need the foam, which has big implications for your board selection. using myself as an example: i did a lot of swimming tra...
