These fins are hard enough to find. Let alone in good condition. Be prepared to pay for it. They are being reproduced in the USA. Take a look at the link below. That one on Ebay is a wave set design to fit in a modern finbox. platty. http://www.oneworldsurf.com/reprofins.htm http://www.davidplattsur...

This board would have been glassed with poly. So I would suggest you do the repairs with poly. Far easier to filler coat and gloss than epoxy. These boards were generally glassed with 2 x 10 oz top and bottom. So I would give it a pretty good grind/ sand and replace at least the equivelent amount of...

Pretty hard to get a old school log to do a roundhouse cutback. They are just not designed for that type of surfing. You can turn them from out on the shoulder at speed, (backhand) but it is a pivot type turn. Instead of leaning foward like you would on your modern 9, you need to lean back in the tu...

ALBERT WHITEMAN / HOT BUTTERED

I recently aquired an Albert Whiteman shaped Hot Buttered kneeboard. I know little about Albert apart from the fact he passed away some years ago. Are his shapes collectable now? I have no real need to hang onto the board and I am thinking of selling it. Would it be worth any more than a similar boa...

UV resin in my opinion, is the best thing since the invention of the single fin surfboard. I've been using it for the last 3 years primarily for ding repairs. I have glassed a few boards with it. One with cut laps. All you need to do is expose the deck to the sun and let it kick to the point that yo...

Hey ric. the main reason for glassing the logs with v/e is the colour. V/e is far superior to poly in regard to its physical properties. It is also slightly lighter than poly and stiffer. So it would be a better option for glassing short boards apart from the colour. As far as glassing pu blanks wit...

I glass my logs with vinylester. SPV 1265 from FGI. It is recomended that you use mekp / sr (slow reaction) The vinylester has a similar chemical backbone to epoxy. Some vinylester resin is refered to as epoxy vinylester. The only drawback is that it is not clear. It has pale brown tint to it. Perfe...

There is no reason why you could'nt ride it stand up. Most of thetwin keel fish's you see today are based on knee boards from the 70's. Sorry about the quality of the last 3 links. This is the fish being discussed in the Swaylocks link. platty. http://www.davidplattsurfboardrestorations.com.au http:...

Back in the mid to late 70's the single fin fish an appearance. Probably based on the knee boards of the time. I can remember making a few with some mates. Can't remember ever seeing twin fin fish back then. The photo below is a Mc Grigor spoon knee board but it is basically the same as the boards w...

This is a link to a design and construction book published in the 70's. Yes it is over 30 years old, but surfboard design principles would still be basiclly the same give or take one or two fins. I'm using the UV cure on about 90% of the work I do now. I use the Soltek UV catalyst. From Incontrol Agencies at Narrabeen. 02 9970 6500. http://www.soltekonline.com.au/home.html They will supply batches to add to 4kg or 20 kg pails. It is not like MEKP where you add it to the resin as needed. You ...

The board is 6'6" and the fin is 8.25" high and the base is 5.50". The design is from a 70's Surfboard and Construction manual that was posted as a pdf on Swaylocks a while back. The board is based on the Tony Staples 6'6" rounded square tail. The outline and rocker are as the plans. The deck camber...

Is it regular PU foam blown at a higher volume to produce a denser foam? Or is it high density PVC foam? High density PVC foam comes in a number of densities. It is what Tuflite use in there boards. It is used widely in the composite boatbuilding industry as a core material in hulls and decks. Is it...
