I've seen Mick Fanning and Jay Thompson burn locals and take all the sets while towing into a crowded lineup at 4ft supertubes over here.

Re: barrow island
Applied for a few roustabout and floorhand jobs myself recently (like an hour ago). Hoping that my mining experience counts for at least something. The ad seemed promising.
So keen on an oil job. A 4 week on/4 week off roster would be so freakin good...

Re: How much harder is paddle-surfing compared to tow-surfing?
I couldn't agree more. Paddling out on a big day and catching your breath out the back, watching the sets roll in, sitting in the lineup and watching the inside smash itself onto dry rock, or throw out onto some sand. Cheering people into sets, trying to coerce your friends into double ups/suicidall...

Re: How much harder is paddle-surfing compared to tow-surfing?
its never too big to paddle into, just use flippers if you need a jetski maybe its time to open yourself to different surf craft or go back to the cliff and sit there with all the other goons just watching making excuses there's still plenty of waves that can't be paddled into on a lid, or for that...

Re: Surfer HERO on South Coast
(.... or am I just an old fart that hasn't attended school for over 100 years, and this sort of stuff is already happening?) can't talk about the current system but when I was a young 'un (around '92ish, I guess) I was constantly getting blasted with watch out for rips, swim sidewards to the beach ...

Re: Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
btw do people actually say "bro" in the gas bay carpark? good fcuken god. maybe there should be a sign there saying "no saying 'bro' in a public amenity space" I have been guilty of using bro in a non ironic fashion before  (although that was to friends, in my defense). No one's perfect I gue...

Re: Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
reminds me of a recent story actually.. had to smash my back window in at the gas bay carpark down south because I locked my keys in. Smashed it, and then spent the next 20 or so minutes being very anal about getting all the glass up with my towel. These dudes pull up.. "what are you doing bro?" "ha...

Re: Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
And sorry Caspian, dogshit on the beach or in the park where children play IS a problem. A problem that takes ten seconds to fix. In case you don't know how: 1) Identify which shoe/foot/thong has dog poo on 2) Wipe on some grass/rinse down with a hose 3)??? 4) Profit I really wouldn't say it's a bi...

Re: Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
I live half an hour from a beach, and don't own a dog. So that point of yours is moot. The difference between us two, it seems, is that if I see a bit of dog poo on the beach (and I do) I -and I know this sounds crazy- walk around it and get over it. Perhaps in NSW or wherever beaches are tiny, 1 me...

Re: Byron Bay Carnage
On another note, this never happens in WA. Sucks to be on the east coast   8) You obviously don't bodyboard in the metro area much. I surf Cott and anywhere from Peasholm St dog beach to Trigg Point a lot (mostly dog beach and 3rd carpark) and it's a zoo on a weekend (even midweek sometim...

Re: Byron Bay Carnage
this would all be solved very quickly if surfboards were illegal and everyone just bodyboarded. not that I really want that to happen, just sayin' Edit: and really this whole regulation thing you guys are suggesting is bullshit. If there's someone kooking things up, tell them about it. Send them in ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
had a pretty fun time at the early today.. Small and super glassy closeouts at city beach. Ridiculously hollow. I don't think a single wave I had lasted longer then 2 seconds (drop down face, scoop, nice barrel vision, get hammered) but it was a crazy amount of fun. Might even go for the early for m...

Re: barrow island
be surprised if there'd be much in the way of waves. Unless if my geography's wrong, isn't it in the surf shadow along with the rest of Northern WA?
Otherwise i may have to get a job up there...

Re: Byron Bay Carnage
Totally ban legropes! It's never gunna happen, but eliminating the goon chord will virtually halve the pack at any given break. A total ban would be a bit silly (especially if it's an out to sea bombie etc), but banning leg ropes at places like Byron, Superbank etc. Wouldn't be too bad and would be...

Re: Byron Bay Carnage
We need an Australian branch of the Wolfpak here, just like they have Hells Angels everywhere, bring the Wolfpak mentality here and ring that bell. "great idea bro" It is a sad story though, and an all too common one. I had my last bodyboard basically sliced in half by a surfer (actually a friend o...
