I'm in the market for a new suit so I was re-reading this thread. Came across this gold from 2010:

Re: Running people over... what's the protocol?
I had a late arvo session a while back around Torquay. Pumping down the face, about 20m off the shore when I fully smashed into a father teaching his son to surf. In my defence I had the setting sun blinding me and had no idea they were there. So no-ones fault.. but the kid was crying, the dad was ...

Re: Reckon its possible to over surf?
I'm nowhere near surfed out, but i'm definitely sick of being in the water these days. I've been a surf instructor for nearly 2 years and i need a ridiculous amount of motivation just to put a wetsuit on. All the time in the water has done nothing for my cold tolerance, i wear 2 4/3 wetsuits over th...

Yeah I think it's a bit different down here, maybe 20% backpackers and 80% local/Geelong/Melbourne. Because of that I'd say the retention rate's a bit higher, but like you said most of them just end up dabbling on mini mals.steve shearer wrote: primarily backpackers but also aussies from the cities .

Digger, I've always liked this video of Clay Marzo with a doctor talking about aspergers... It's a bit dumbed down but there are some pretty profound quotes in there...

Interested in this as well, I had Asthma for most of my childhood and as a result I can't hold my breath for long. Without a doubt the biggest problem I have in the surf.

Definitely! Pretty much the reason I don't give to charities. I want to choose where my money goes.alakaboo wrote:I think in general you should be able to dictate where your donations go within an organisation.

Re: Clubbies who surf: a conflict of interest?
Most skis and racing boards are privately owned, or at least they were at my club. All the small foam boards the nippers use are owned by the club, but surely this is a way of attracting people to the club from a young age, club development, blah blah blah. It seems like your very opinionated on so...

Re: Clubbies who surf: a conflict of interest?
Yeah alright, competition keeps em motivated... But that doesn't excuse clubs asking for donations so they can buy their 50th surf ski or send 100 kids to queensland for a couple of days of ridiculous over the top competition... If there's a line between staying motivated and going completely over t...
