Re: Where did you surf today ?

When I tore the tendon off my left arm a year or so ago, the radiographer who did the ultrasound told me he was one of the guys who go out in kayaks to fish on the reefsmoff Moffs. I reckon we they were mad trailing fish blood and guts all the way out there. No worries, he said. We've been doing it ...

BTW. I saw a guy out on a SUP a while ago using two legropes.
Can we get a bit more detail on this?
What sort of detail would you like to know?

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah they pull around 250-300 tiger sharks off buoys and nets each year in Qld, it's not like there is a lack of 'em I wasn't really worried. Ironically the other day when swimming in after my board, not once did shark cross my mind. There's a bunch of kayakers go out at Moffs every morning, to fis...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

 my son tried the same thing last week. Same result. It's funny that you could think that no one would have worked it out before if it worked.....but any things possible. Most of the manouvres people do in the surf weren't done before because no one thought of them. Everyone seems to have over...

Ability to carry weight and the ability to withstand shearing force are two different things.
No shit Sherlock. :B
But UV damage was mentioned.
Plastic rope used in the same situation, deteriorates in a year or so. And breaks. The zip ties don't.

And then there's the UV factor causing plastics to go brittle

I've been using zip ties in the garden for years, carrying decent weight. Sunshine, rain, UV. Never had a failure.
You know they come in different sizes don't you?

That was a brilliant Fong idea
I tried it one day when I didn’t have a loop
First wave the zip tie broke
How the hell can a zip tie break?

Re: Where did you surf today ?

btw Trev, you're gonna get a few days of surf soon from a long easterly fetch that started out past the Cook Islands and has been helped along by some 25-knot winds between Tonga and NZ. Then more behind that via a repeat pattern. Points might wake up under that second lot. Two happy weeks ahead! A...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I've just added a zip tie to each of my boards as a backup to the loop. Not sure if this is a display of brilliance or tardance Neither am I. I was adding a new loop to one of my boards and thought about using two. Then I thought about the unbreakable zip tie. I left it slightly looser than the loo...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

^ Had something like that yesterday. Pulled up. A bit of swell but no one in the carpark. Still, offshore on the short period wind swell, peaking all over the place. Went out anyway, paddling off the beach as the keyhole was a washing machine. Spent an hour dodging rogue peaks and rogue sets. Copped...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Experienced the most rapid wind change I've ever seen this morning.
Nice. Reasonably strong offshore grooming the overnight bumps when I arrived. By the time I was wading out through the keyhole it just instantly swapped to a strong and I mean strong onshore. Blew the place out inside five minutes.
