Re: Yoga/Surf Fitness

all of a sudden there is an influx of pomgolian learner/intermediates coming to live at lennox. pushing up house prices and inculcating our kids with inappropriate geo-political values. what can we do about this as a community and a nation of proud surfers? well you do a good job of talking up the ...

Re: Ask Carroll

oh man I have no idea. probably surprisingly few. The real number would be how many people have seen it. I would imagine that there are a huge number of surfing households that have a MOTE DVD in the collection. Given pretty much every old surfie would have one plus hipsters and new surfers would p...

Re: Longboard disgust

you shortboarders, always complaining. in the old days, before your shapers worked out what they were doing, it was all complaining about kneeboarders going deeper and taking all the waves. now you've at last got a board that can go deep, you start complaining about longboarders. poor shortboarders,...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

pearling is an old-timey term, probably californian.... i guess i picked it up in the 70s. i've often wondered about the origin of the term. maybe it's short for pearl diving...as in going underwater. i started repairing my other board this morning...i've cut back the damaged fibreglass and ready t...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

ok that makes sense... i'm riding a 5'10" swallowtail kneeboard...it's "front foot" style surfing, so no leaning back on the tail. it's my "summer" board. fairly flat rocker and not much concave. my rounded pin that i use in bigger waves is fin chopped and out of action. too damaged for me to repair...

i reckon that was more than 4ft...i have now have an extra-long leggie.

if my board is pearling all the time does that mean too late a take off? too short a board for the conditions? crap surfing skills?

there were plenty of solid, sizeable waves around sydney on wednesday and thursday. it might not have been as big as monday's peak, but that was no fizzer.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

the big sets were BIG -- 8', very clean with plenty of time between to paddle out. not crowded.
i spent an hour waiting for the tide to come up and psyching myself into going out. felt a little undergunned on a 5'9".
