Re: Ebay Bargains thread

It would appear that the Dunning-Kruger effect has moved house from the twin-fin thread to the ebay bargains thread.

Fin placement looks off.
As in misaligned or not in the right position ?

The misalignment is probably a photographic illusion ... and the positioning looks okay.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

Volume isn't just an outcome, sometimes it's a driver of those decisions. In this case I mean displacement. Volume might be a "driver" ... but it's still the outcome of all the other aspects of shaping. Otherwise you could end up with a 33.5lt cube of foam and fibreglass ... and theres ya problem, ...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

As an over-arching measure of displacement and thus how well the board will float you volume is one of the handiest measurements there is for deciding on if a board of any combination of other design principles will work or not. That is why it has become so ubiquitous- because it's so fcuking usefu...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

I'm not saying that volume is the only thing driving design, that's insane. As is saying it's only a result of design decisions. But volume is achieved by design decisions ... thickness, width, length, foil, concave and other varying factors all contribute to how much foam is left after shaping. Vo...

Volume is a basic design principle.
Volume is the result of the basic design principles ... its a displacement measurement, nothing more.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

Rod Morgan makes a good twinny. He's Rasta's surf buddy. https://www.instagram.com/p/CRliwzxHOMN/?img_index=6 Yep, that looks nice. Its amazing how many surfers don't understand even the basic design principles of surfboards ... this volume phenomenon is a classic example, where they bang on about ...

Looks sick but it's not a twin
If thats not a twin fin, then neither are the the MR Super Twins ... the rear fin is an optional stabiliser.

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

Best twin fin I’d ever owned was shaped by Nigel Beckham. Pretty sure he’s retired from shaping now. Nigel is still shaping. Ah that’s good to hear. Wasn’t he sick, cancer or something a while back ? I do remember he was getting tests for something, but it wasn't cancer ... seems to be out the othe...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Big names with egos in check Shane Egan. Rod Dahlberg. Slightly lesser name but famous brand Dale Wilson Cory in Torquay also seems like no ego. There's heaps of good shapers without weird ego slash complexes ... way too many to list. I know a few that are deep into conspiracy theories, but I won't...

That board he made looked and surfed like dogshitt.

His own theories are equally subjective.
Its always dangerous to drink your own Koo-laid ... and how many times did he mention kinetic energy.
