Re: Summer 15 -- enter the el niño

At its peak, el nino never really got going at all this summer, did it? I know it was talked about, prognosticated upon, speculated towards, but it was never really here, and now appears to have confirmed by its disappearance. Apart from Braithy's mangoes, that is. As I was walking on the stair, I m...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

My very first exposure to composites in surfboards was while working with Frank McWilliams at Bamboo Surfboards Australia - I know exactly how they **** up. I've been circling on your fringes for a long time Josh. I bought a bamboo many years ago, whey they were first starting out. It snapped in ab...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Hey Oldman - I no longer pick that scab. Long story which I won't tell here. It should'nt lessen your enthusiasm for your new board however - I try never to dirty anyone's joy on the composite thing of any label, so hopefully it turns you on and you come to me for a custom! Thanks everyone. Josh, t...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Good luck Josh. Fark, realsurf contributors going through some hell at the moment. On a lighter note, I just picked up a Sunova board, 6'6'', had always wanted a sunova since seeing them in Natural Necessity some time back and found this one on gumtree. It may be too good for me, but fark it, how is...

Re: Step Downs

Oh I didn't have the HK, I meant our mate in common who told me I just missed you did. And he loved it! Yeah, he's loving it. His partner basically took his HK off him, IIRC, and so he has another, and maybe another HK. He doesn't mind buying a new board our friend, he's worse than me. I keep in co...

Re: Step Downs

Don't know when I'll be back, but I'm working much harder on my surfing and determined to get back to my best (it's a relative term!) How are you doing that Olds? First of all, I'm just fitter and in particular stronger than I have been in a long while. Been doing weights regularly now for about 18...

Re: Step Downs

Nice pic matticus, takes me back instantly. Yeah, April was good, I had only been once before then and it was pretty good previously, but just amazing in April. I think I know which board you are talking about re Chris. In October he had a canary yellow round tail that looked very nice. Pity t...

Re: Step Downs

But I bought the wrong length at 6'6''. Lovely board and I had a batch of good surfs on it, but it was too much board for me. If you decide to get rid of it maybe let me know, pretty close to spot on for me. BTW - I missed seeing you tap dance across the hot black sands by a matter of weeks Oldman....

Re: Step Downs

Re the mini driver, my mate has one and he loves it.

A little under what I want in volume though, but he says it is the best board he has had for a long time.

Re: Step Downs

Oldman did you look at the Simon Face Dancer? I fondled both a Face Dancer and a JS Revolution of the same length. I bought the 5th one that was brought into Australia, literally, number 5. But I bought the wrong length at 6'6''. Lovely board and I had a batch of good surfs on it, but it was too mu...

Re: Step Downs

G'day spork, I've had the same sort of experience, which I have just come around to the effect of too much volume in the bumpy conditions. Will be soon buying one or maybe two new boards, dependent on what I find out there. Looking for one in the 'step down' region, so probably a quad option around ...

Re: Step Downs

Hatchnam, I'm looking around, a lot, at the moment. I've bought a few boards in the last 18 months and have ended up a little disappointed with them, can't quite find that right mix. Tried a hypto krypto, but got rid of it after about 5 weeks. I couldn't bear the ignominy of running into you with it...

...but wedding cake island, very long way out, very lonely, v sharky, and very high chance of being clobbered by a 10 foot ++ set - big white water rumble, good leggie snapping conditions... Fking nightmare!!! I guess on a softer rolling swell could be easy ride but with any size ... Much ballsier ...

Re: Winter Guns... Wherefore art thou ..?

He also said the same thing on a Bali blog post he wrote. Fcuk I hope it doesn't go into mass circulation. I want the herd to remain on their undergunned indo guns when it's pumping. Another reason, which he alludes to and has been thrashed out on here a bit, is the whole volume question. Volume ha...

Re: Hypto Krypto voted "board of the year"

you just completely validated my statement Olds. the only right volume is the one that enables a surfer to catch waves. The "right" volume is purely a function of fashion. People obsessing over a whether a board is twenty nine or thirty litres is ridick. Sheesh! The right volume is the volume that ...

What a prat of a statement.

Go and surf on those 1990's wafers for the rest of your days then SS.

Volume not being relevant to surfing like wings aren't relevant to flying.
