Re: Where did you surf today ?
Was out Newport too early. But way too big for me. Got caught on the way out by the biggest set I’d ever stared down. Desperately tried not to panic, bailed and dived deep, deep, praying for my legrope. And again. And again. Then thankfully the 4th broke far enough out for me to cop the whitewash an...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Even if the peak body is collecting tax payer funds (your money) on your behalf and is claiming to represent you as a means to do so? It's not right but not surprising. Only a tiny percentage of those tax payer funds come from recreational surfers so who are we to throw our weight around and make d...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Amateur surfers put no money into the bodies, that's the difference. Footballers, golfers etc pay their annual fees. Fishermen pay their licenses. Nah mate, you've missed the point there. \ surfing Aus is funded by taxpayers and by fees paid for by board riders clubs, surf schools etc etc.\\ Rec fi...

It is - while the new park @ Mona Vale is packed out, we usually get this to ourselves. Well maintained, continually fixed up & repainted, no rubbish even a little community garden outside

18 Sec Period for Sydney
3ft, 18 seconds predicted for Sydney on Saturday by coastalwatch and magicseaweed? Pretty rare to get that sort of period in Sydney, isn't it?

Re: News Flash - Fewer "Hardcores" @ Newport Than 1979
The surfer's name was Andrew Murphy, an incredibly nice guy originally from Cronulla who came to live at Newport for most of the '90s. Beloved of all who knew him, Andrew nevertheless suffered from a serious psychiatric illness that caused his suicide.. Knew I'd heard the name - he has a plaque dow...

Re: Breath Holding
Obviously the situations are markedly different: Getting ragdolled after a wipeout after a hard paddle vs Sitting at a kitchen table vs Semi-concious trance state in a tank But do they justify a difference of 10 sec vs 22min That's 130 x as long! Guess the interesting thing is what he could do in a ...

Have you considered what airlines will think of them? Seems to me that currently airlines are surprisingly accommodating with regular surfboard bags but they might not be with a 10-board hard case.

Kids surfing - how young to start
Really keen to get my kids into the surf (inspired by stories of woolly & his 3 generations). Have a 4 and a 2 year old and have taken them each a couple of times into the surf and pushed them lying down onto a knee-deep 1/4 ft shorey on a 6ft foamy with limited success. So few questions for you who...

Beachbanga the only mistake you made was you apologised. Nope - that was well done. tomtom wouldn't have the strength of character to do the same I suspect And how come none of the similar and worse stuff posted previously, didn't require censorship? I'm not a regular here and I don't know exactly ...

Near drowning at Palm Beach?
On Sunday at Palm Beach I saw this guy get dragged out of the water. For a full 30 mins people were doing CPR (at first other surfers then the life guards) before the ambos took him away. It was horrible to watch, I was sure he was a gonner after so long pumping his chest. However looks like he surv...
