Re: Just general surfing stuff

Anyone read 'the critical surf studies reader'? https://www.dukeupress.edu/the-critical-surf-studies-reader The evolution of surfing—from the first forms of wave-riding in Oceania, Africa, and the Americas to the inauguration of surfing as a competitive sport at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—traverses the...

Re: Kelly's wave.

I've tried to find a similar sport to compare with; it is maybe similar to skaters who stay in the same park their whole lives, but even they have the benefit of different objects and runs etc. Maybe the same half-pipe? . playing a golf course vs a driving range. You are still hitting the golf ball...

Re: Operation

I've seen a lot of of beginner/getting back into it swimmers recommend the 0 - 1650 program http://ruthkazez.com/swimming/ZeroTo1mile.html But you might want to take it a bit easier, maybe double the length of the program (ie week 1 = 1/2 the recommended distance for week 1, week 2 = week 1, week 3 ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

OK, and weight restrictions for surfers too. We want them svelte and glamorous Depends whether you want WSL surfers to be aspirational (svelte and glamorous) or relatable (in which case, we need a fat percentage minimum. Say 22.5%, so the average surfer can relate). I realise that would ends Carrol...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

I thought the exchange rate was much closer to 1:1 Me too. I see that kind of money as reasonable. Average daily wage is F$10 - 30 per day, there's room for a gigantic profit on F$250 for half a day; you could pay 20 fijians half their daily wage rate for the easiest job they are ever going to get....

Recommendations for a waterproof digital watch for surfing that's under $100 that "lasts" and won't fog up if taken in the shower ? Can't be bothered taking a watch on and off, once it's on it fkn stays on.
g-shock on special $60 approx

It lasted about 6 months with lots of button pushing. I bought a 'surf watch' at 70% off; its still w...

Re: swimming/paddling/misc water sports.

good on ya brendo. Here's a bit for your back/core strength and flexibility in the pool, get some fins and do some dolphin style butterfly kicking. Did this yesterday, have to say that every niggle and pain below the waist was highlighted! Not sure I did it right but zoomed along. Needed more than ...

Don't forget the 'anti' core stuff - anti rotation, flexion etc. That is good for injury prevention (whereas flexion work is perhaps more relevant to atheletic activity)

Re: Midlengths

so is this shape suitable for beachies or is it more of a point break board? 6'10" x 21.5" x 2.75". Not looking at buying, just to learn a bit.
