I think the HAT is highest astronomical tide under average meterological conditions.

Does your graph show predicted high water factoring stuff like lower than average pressure or storm surge?

Hay ben, that would be one of these amphidromic points, with the tide spinning around NZ. heres a map with other points: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/M2_tidal_constituent.jpg The whitelines show lines where the tide happens at the same time, 1 hour between lines. for some reaso...

Interestingly, stone henge is on one of those points, did the cave men know? How though, it's on land? ok, your pushing my limeted brain power, but i guess its a sort of observed center of the effect, a theoretical point, rather than something thats acting on the system (the body of water). these n...

The tides vary in different locations due to the corriolis force, not just gepgraphy. Corriolis makes the tides swirl around central points, if you are on one of those points, no tide, if you are away from one of those points, big tide. Interestingly, stone henge is on one of those points, did the c...

Its not great.

You could pick one up in anglet (just to the north of biaritz) or in hosegor, choice isn't great. If you just want a bog standard shortboard, you will probably be ok.I remember it being pretty expensive. Not sure about bodyboards, im sure the surfshops stock em.

Ive surfed france and portugal a bit, heres my 3 cents: 1. It gets pretty powerfull, take min 2 boards, take a step-up 2. Its warm. 3/2 full suit max you will need, eg for early mornings in france. might just want a vest in the arvos. 3. Surf camps? you don't need no stinking surfcamps. Get a copy o...

admirable sentiments i reckon cliff, but like you say: the big problem is patagonia don't export and i think they don't be because they recognise that would void the attempts to be green. still, if you are over there on holiday anyway... a few other people make suits out of yamamoto neoprene which i...

Totaly agree 2+1 on a mid length the best bet for flexability, but ive tried one of those fcs adaptors and it didn't really work that well; bit wobbly. I reckon just a small fin in the box would be better.

el gringo is right, Its not east west, its left right. The key to the coiolis effect is the changing diameter of the earth as you move north and south. Due to this difference, things move faster due to the planets rotation nearer the equator than they do nearer the poles - to zero of course, at the ...

Another hint: a good paddler, just like a good swimmer, engages his/her whole body in the stroke. If your legs aren't moving (just a little bit!) your arms are working too hard. Is that for balance Nick? Cos my feet arn't really engaging with the water when I'm lying on a 6' surfboard - can't imagi...
