Re: Front shoulder pain.

Hi there, worth checking out this video about shoulder prep and maintenance. I had a serious rotator cuff injury and a good physio here in DY got me on exercises similar to the ones on the video and I was back in the water in 2 months. I do a similar routine to the video twice a week and shoulders h...

Re: Wetsuit for NZ later November - Taranaki area

Thanks mate, local friend tells me I can drive to New Plymouth area and that plenty of spots can be offshore on the SW wind, which makes sense when you look at the map. Apparently it is not a long drive, under an hour.

cheers

Wetsuit for NZ later November - Taranaki area

Afternoon gents, will be spending 11 days in the North island of New Zealand, south west: Taranaki area (Opunake to be specific) for 6 days and then Raglan for 5 days and looking for some thoughts on if I should get a 4/3 lighter performance wetsuit or a warm 3/2 ?. I had a look and the water temp a...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

Back from Fiji, had a similar experience to Beanpole. Surfed Cloudbreak at around 5 to 6 foot, scary enough however managed to get 5 waves in 3 hours in the water, not because it was crowded (it was not crowded to my surprise, we were 6 guys in the water), just some of the drops.... , took a 6.8" bo...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

Yes, Fijian dollars, which translates to 140$ Aussie, not cheap I agree. I get picked up from my hotel and taken to the wharf that is also included with return as well. I am staying about 30 minutes from the wharf. I think if you can work yuor way to the wharf you pay $160 Fijian dollars, I am being...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

Heading there next week from the 14th onwards for 6 days. Organised surf with Fiji Surf Co, 2 mornings. My brother did it 2 weeks ago and he mentioned they have 2 boats , one for less exposed options for beginners to Intermediate type waves if Cloudbreak is 6+ plus. The second boat will always go to...

Re: October; Hawaii... Oregon to California... or Nova Scotia?

October can be a transition month for most places however not saying you are not going to score. Early NW swell Hawaii is possible. Late SW swell Cali is possible. If you want to surf warmer water, south of the border warm water option ? and still within the late swell season but maybe less crowds. ...

Re: Ears

On top of the things recommended above (plugs + Aqua ear drops after every surf) I do the Waxsol drops to clear excess wax and keep things clean in there to avoid infections. A reduced ear channel plus wax= not good. I do waxsol every couple of weeks x 2 days in a row, just fill each ear and let the...

Re: Length over width for volume?

Many things at play here. Things like where do you surf: Sunset Beach or Manly Yes shorter wider boards are more common in Sydney beaches as most of the time it grovelling however the narrower longer boards are more common in waves that demand control on speed and power. The thickness question you a...

Re: Best option for first father/son indo trip?

I suggest you check the Telos islands and ideally from a boat not a camp as they are very expensive. 2 years ago went there with Sumatran Surfaris and there was a father and son team on board. The father was an older guy and the Telos did had mellower 3 - 4 foot waves and some days the father would ...

Re: Maldives

As long as you travel away from the north Male area you will get your money's worth. The North Male area is plagued with boats and camps and on slower days you can surf with 25+ people in the water on a tight take off spot. We hanged out Jails for a couple of days and it was busy as. We went with a ...

Re: little pricks ( not about pro surfers)

Hi there, in my experience it is a good complimentary treatment but did not work isolated. I tore my left knee meniscus while surfing late last year and the muscles on my leg were all out / pulling the wrong way, etc. The little picks did help but in combination with "traditional" physio. I was luck...
