Re: mctavish boards

I have been riding these boards before it became Hip just as I have been wearing flannies for 30 years. The old v panel ones I have ridden felt real clunky rail to rail as most had an extreme V the newer ones seem a lot more toned down with the V and rails blended together better. Out of the new one...

Re: mctavish boards

Had to revive this thread 2004 "Mctavish boards, pffffff. They are all flashy and mass produced. Most of them are high peformance and are ridden by begginers , exept for the teamriders (like no one anymore) and are ugly and to mainstream" Amazing what a difference 8 years makes, me had a few ...

Re: kneeboarders???

Thought I better bump this thread as the world kneeboard titles are on at Phillip Island this March 2011 The Island has a yearly Comp intiated by Neil Luke back in 1986 I think Lukey is now up in Byron Bay. I myself was a kneelo from 1974 but started standing up in the late 80s. Still pull the kneel...

Re: Meyerhoffer?

Cat Bay a paradise lost great little nose riding wave now a log jam of the Shelley Beach angling club. Watch them when they frequent other breaks and they use the exact same angle on take off only to be left behind as the wave races away. These guys will use any advantage they can to try and do a pr...

Re: Nose rider

Sorry to hijack your thread, Glad you brought this up I was about to ask whats happening in the world of log design too. I have 2 noseriders one a heavy glass Taky Model T 9' 6" and a 9'3" Keyo pinched rail lighter log. I have found the heavy Model T has improved my nose riding outta of sight that a...

Yeh totally agree our local club comps are now totally dominated by shortboarders who ride 9 footers since the 70 /30 came in. They will score 8s 9s & 10s and never leave the tail pad. Sort of makes nine footers pointless other than for comps. If you want to throw it around ride a 8 footer (or short...

Longboard surfing is harder I reckon especially as you get better at it. On a shorty you react to the wave whereas on a mal your always thinking ahead should I hit the lip or should I walk it ... the best mal riders do it all instinctively and thats the bridge between intermediate to advanced riding...

Interesting to see Tudor riding a fish in the opening thought I read in an interview somewhere once we he said he would not go down the fish road sticking to single fins. Love the lines he carves on that fattish RH on it. Great movie Be good to do an Aussie send up movie. I think surfing has got to ...

This phenommenon has hit way down south too on the rock. 21st century surfers everywhere all learning bad habbits from mates who took surfing up last year both long short and in between. No respect no clue they follow locals around as they cant figure out how to read a spot themselves so we paddle e...

Hey Hang Ten its the roundhouse on my backhand. Was getting the hang of your Keyo tonight out there where were you ? I think its more about my timing and driving the knees more and waiting for the spot to bring it back around. I think I was trying to overpower the board rather than let it do a bit m...

50 / 50 rails, pivots & roundhouses

Hope you can help me. We have a local reef point that has a peaky double up take off a wailing wally section goes fat then is followed by a wailing wally section to the channel. I ride this on my backhand. I have ridden two logs out here one a model T and another lighter weight pintail Keyo. I also ...

Plenty of shark infested left hand points down here in feline bay lads although they are fast getting choked up with the sea changing kooks you guys have been telling us about for years. Saw the first stand up paddle boarder this week.

Went to the Mentawais 2 years ago took a nine footer and a seven foot gun and found a heap of breaks that were easily surfed on the mal that were written off by the shorty crew. Me and six mates charted the whole boat and we pretty much had the B grade spots to ourselves with the A grades being crow...
