Re: Where did you surf today ?
au contraire Southerly swell produced sizeable almost glassy walls real early on Sunday morning down in the deep south (no not that deep) Late Saturday arvo/early evening was an eye opener, a fair bit larger than the forecast predicted and few takers...bit of a contrast to the weekend before, sharin...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?
Took my NSD 6'10 custom rounded pin (step-up) and Al Merrick Rookie 6'4 to Canggu/G-land very recently. Was wishing for something with more paddle power on the bigger (6ft+) days at G-land, but that's probably more a reflection of where my surfing is at than the board. The Rookie is a sick board, go...

Re: Step Up Volume
I am about 87kg and fit. My go to board for good waves is 32.6 litres which is fine by me. My summertime Blackbox 6'1 is around 34 litres, which is also fine. My step up Indo mini gun 6'10, not sure on volume, but probably similar to the Blackbox. I really appreciate the blackbox width/modern shape ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
here's an analogy. I have always been a keen cyclist. A few years ago I worked 12 months as a bike courier. I was fast when I started but after a few months I was stupid fast, a pro essentially. But cycling morphed from a pastime into a job and my office was my handlebars. After reaching that level,...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
surfed some sneaky reefs on the weekend south of Sydney... Friday arvo, very packed at one of the few spots handling the wind, long waits for head high plus fun, ditto Saturday morning. Saturday arvo, paddled out at a more exposed reef with only 10 out, the boys on the mals had the big advantage wit...

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?
all kinds... I would chose paddle-ability above duck-dive ability, plenty of times the paddleability will help when you are scrambling to the horizon and sprinting for position. Also plenty of situations where you can't hope to duckdive 2 stories of whitewater, so just hug your board and take your m...

From Friday and Saturday, three to four foot peaks, glassy morning and offshore afternoons, fast hollow and shreddable, everyone frothing over how good it was, nsw beachies...think I will retire cause it can't get any better

Re: Surf fitness
my point is, i have paddled out alone and scored ridiculous waves on numerous occasions here and in Marokko that i would have definitely missed if i wasn't supremely confident in my paddling (swimming) ability

Re: Surf fitness
swimming, swimming, swimming. good for your core, back, flexibility, recovery, paddle speed, joints everything, esp good for old cnuts. def helps in every size of surf...and around the world i have noticed as soon as it's five foot the line-up thins out considerably...which is when it really starts ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
saturday am - right hand reef and beachie, south facing...nice steep take off, some big walls to carve before working it through to the inside where it got more hollow...clean, light offshore, very consistent. 0 other surfers out....somewhere on the east coast :D ditto for the lago, albeit smaller, ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
south east facing beachy on the mid north coast...doing its best porto escondido impression (probably)...not so much the size (3-5ft) but the heft of the waves were impressive...being dead low they just unloaded into shallow water...plenty of crew, not that many takers...lots of closeouts but the od...

Re: Ask Carroll
Mr Carroll, shouldnt the ASP be doing a lot more to introduce more nationalities (following/interest/sponsorhip) to surfing. I mean no Indonesians on tour? Sure they might not shred in all conditions (ie big slow fat waves in cold water like Bells), but there are a few who would take it to anyone at...
