Re: Fiji Quiver

If you get Frigates on a proper day then you will need a fair bit of surfboard under your feet. Take a proper gun with length and some volume. Big fast moving waves, open faces and powerful bowls. The current can really move too so paddling advantage is really handy. I have surfed all the other wave...

Re: Fiji anyone?

I am flying out on Tuesday for a week on the coral coast. I might miss the peak of the swell on monday but there looks like a few days of following swell to keep me amused. I should be able to surf the same swell all weekend in sydney and next week in Fiji. I am taking trusty 7'0" and wondering if i...

Re: Serious swell hits the Maldives

Madagascar is going to be off its chops.
Saturday will be 5.5m swell at 15 seconds with light offshores at Flame balls and the other Vezo reefs. i am sure all sorts of amazing waves will be found right up the West coast and Mozambique Channel.

Northern Beaches Parking Stickers

Just got my rate notice and the evil Warringah Council is making us apply for our parking stickers, with rego numbers of cars specific to the stickers. Only one free sticker and the second is $50. A pox on them and their kind! How are we supposed to swap stickers with our friends in Manly and Pittwa...

Re: Frank Bainimarama/Fiji/Cloudbreak

For a while there in mid 90's the Momi Bay villagers were doing Cloudbreak for F$45 day. As they were the traditional owners of the reef they retained that right for a while. I guess that Tavarua found a way of eliminating this competition soon after. Interestingly that trip was in march and Coral S...

Re: Frank Bainimarama/Fiji/Cloudbreak

I stayed at seashell cove for a few weeks in 1996. I surfed cloudbreak, Namotu and wilkes everyday as these waves were still accessible then, the first heavyness from Tavarua boatmen was appearing but I had no dramas. Back then Cloudbreak boats left from Momi Bay village rather than Seashell. Yes th...

Fiji surfing opened up

Very interested in the decree out of Fiji opening up all surfing areas. This sort of decision with no compensation to existing rights is the sort of decision only a military govt would make. Surely will piss off some vested interests but from a tourism perspective could help surf tourism develop, wi...

Re: Tasmania Surf road trip - advice

camper in tassie is really easy to do. There are many places where its ok to just camp for free behind the beach. The east coast between Binalong Bay and Eaglehawk Neck is the easiest and least convoluted bit of coast - and its getting plenty of swell at the moment. Hobart and South means lots of dr...

Re: Drought breaker?

So the models are really starting to line up for next week. From Monday we will have building ENE swell for the forseeable future. Could be long lasting too, ie, weeks of swell - at last!! Central Qld will also enjoy a drought breaker of the the original kind - flooding rain. Just what the Darling n...

Re: Drought breaker?

Well it does appear that the swell drought is broken, not only are we getting more swell than expected today but both GFS and EC are forecasting multiple swells from multiple directions in the weeks ahead. Unfortunately they dont agree on what when and how these systems will happen. What is aparrent...

Sets seemed to be getting bigger too Jagged a good one and managed to put in some proper full rail turns - then I tried to paddle back out, to no avaial. Went back ...

South Curl Curl. Gets good exposure to S swell North end was at least a foot bigger. Looking at MHL there is a real spike of 12 second groundswell and 3.5m sig wave height at dawn this morning. http://www.mhl.nsw.gov.au/htbin/wave_data_plot.com?Location=Sydney In the water this meant every 15 mins a...

Re: Drought breaker?

I can confirm SurfSA report of curly this morning. The 5'+ set wave he reports detonated on my head and I got to enjoy something I have experienced for months - totally steamrolled by a wave. Plus of course some solid walls to hook in to! GFS has got very excited about this Coral sea TC coming down ...

Re: Drought breaker?

EC still calling for low to for over the tasman, rather than tasmania. But much less favorable looking than yesterdays run. I hope I havent jinxed it - I am not responsible Something is changing in the current pattern but I dont think the computer models can guess how it will pan out. Went for 2km s...

Re: Drought breaker?

But where did the 24 sec period swell come from? Are you sure it was real? Either a dolphin was trying to root the waverider bouy or it must be all the way from Antarctica below Africa to get a 24 sec period. Certainly beyond my usual swell window horizon And where did you get the scat data - i thou...
