Re: Peniche
Al couldn't remember if his name was "Al" or not. He knew that's what people kept referring to him as, especially the French girl. What was her name? Emile? Memory is fickle for a dreamer, a tide with many moons. Why didn't she make contact anymore? Where had she gone? Al decided to find a place in ...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
Don't take it all so seriously, Mr Carroll. Neither of us wrote that both can't co-exist. We were playing around with a discussion with how behaviour comes about. The discussion highlighted the complexity. Sometimes its fun to theorize. Lighten up. BTW that is not why I became involved in the 'baa a...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
Well, in some cultures and situations children do not have to be taught to share. Yes, visit a playground where children have been brought up under certain conditions and this may be the case, however there are others contexts where children don't have to be taught to share because the culture they ...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
Of course, other activities will generate competition and aggression also. However, I suggest that competition and aggression may emerge from certain context or collectivism may etc. Competition and aggression do not take place in all circumstances and at all times. Aggression and competition are no...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
Given the above, this means sport is not a "bleeding off of the excess of competitive instinct" but a mode of producing competitiveness and aggression.

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
Alternatively, you are overcoding readings of the past with an interpretation borne of a current ideology that emphasises competition and so see past behaviours as such. Nevertheless, defending one's territory and competing for mates does not by defacto mean the human condition is innately competiti...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
That's a very general claim, Steve. Collectivism has had just as much influence as competitiveness, or more in certain parts of the world and in certain cultures. Competiveness is something learned under particular ideological conditions, rather than an inherent human trait.

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
"visionary" and "vision" = empty signifiers and they know it. PR words. Members didn't get a say because they were thought to be nothing more than window dressing? "Better contacts"? Media? Then that reflects badly on all those involved because if they can't put the tour out to tender for media cove...

Re: Thoughts on ZoSea's 'takeover' of the ASP? Nick?
BULLSHIT Kelly didn't know about the deal and details. He's using the same tactics he uses in competition. "Oh, I'm may not surf this year's tour" "Oh, I'm not interested in another world title" blah blah. The whole deal is a fuck up of immense proportions. The ASP and asosciated corpos couldn't get...

Re: Bong in big trouble
I wouldn't think investors care about the influence the world tour has. Wouldn't it be a tiny influence anyway? Wouldn't the real percentages to pay attention to be in stock, payroll, space, shipping, etc?

Re: Surf media thread
Had to move here for work. We sometimes go surfing. We have had some waves here. Not a lot of waves, but some. It's a big coast where we've found some nooks and crannies that serve salty delights. Been learning and been surfing some coasts in East Asia I never thought I would. There's a lot of coast...
