Re: Flesh eating surfers

We can assert our rights or desires or demands to munch away on animal flesh all we like - but the grim truth is that by mid century, fewer and fewer humans will enjoy the luxury... If we read a little Peter Singer or Tom Regan or others then it becomes clear on environmental grounds that keeping gr...

Re: P*** off

is anyone else sick of seeing those lame stand up surfing boards polluting our lineups

i had a very bad run in with one two days ago copped 3 stiches to the face and a bruised head

Surfingboards are a menace - must be stopped at once.

Re: The End of Surfing

That's a lot of fun speculation right there - but the more immediate issue of the end of surfing on OUR planet might be entertaining our minds first. There's the long view that the sun will eventually fry our little earth in few hundred million years. BUT, we might also think of rapid climate change...

Re: surf job available in manly

I'LL TAKE IT !!! Anything, but anything to work in the hallowed surf industry. I'll crawl, I'll grovel - just point me in the right direction. Now, I've already sold my soul to the devil, but if I offer a kidney or spleen will that help me in the door? I'll bleach me hair; I'll take up the bong; I'l...

Re: In mY SuRf BaG ...

Yeah - Pridmore mentioned Paw Paw ointment - used to have that a while ago in the surf bag: that stuff's a 'must have' - cuts, rash, bites ... even on toast I suppose. Nice to know I've got more stuff to get.

Re: In mY SuRf BaG ...

No - I never went to Scouts. I am not obsessive compulsive - just slack: I gradually accumulated all this fricken junk over the last few years when it should've been sifted and left in 'the surf cupboard'... Now, in me surf cupboard, there's: 2 spare leggies, one big wave, one short 2 spare wetties,...

In mY SuRf BaG ...

In my surf bag that gets chucked in the back of the car every surf, there is: 4 blocks of wax, hard and soft, one in a plastic container with wax comb - different labels. 3 different tubes of sunscreen 2 tubes of zinc - one white, one 'flesh' 1 plastic scraper for rewaxing 2 spare leggies 2 spare bi...

Whaddabout 'The Rip' by Robert Drewe -
Liked the look of the cover, but have read plenty of him and not sure about another dose: anybody out there read it?

Re: "Breath" by Tim Winton

Aaah - this ol' thread reappears - just at the right moment. I was in a Newsagency the other day and opened up the recent issue of STAB (didn't buy it) and noticed an article using the theme of Nazism/fascist aesthetic. (!) It seemed about conformity in surfing and surf culture - but I wasn't going ...

You're a longboarder and you want advice on what to do with your hatchet fin ?!?! Well, first of all I want to say that everyone, no matter what their choice of craft, and what their skill level is equally entitled to enjoy the wonderful gift of ocean waves that Nature has bequeathed us ... Then, a...

Two words: perseverance and ... MIMICRY The second was most important for me and still is for most I believe: initial big improvements came from watching others (while out in the water with them) and seeing how they paddled, sat on board, spun round to take off, moved into position early etc. Painfu...

Ah, yes - that's what it is: deep blues, but also deep skin colours too!

Bra boys packing on the foundation and cheek highlights before they hit the surf for the camera!

Good stuff though.

I'm claiming responsibility for those banners: as soon as I posted the SMH link - Whammo ! - they appeared like the proverbial genie out of the bottle (Sorry Clif - lame undeconstructed Eastern stereotype - Said, Spivak, Bhaba et al would roll their eyes) I'm with Smnmntl - sure the Hijab should be ...

Islamic East Swell hits the West

SMH has this today - http://www.smh.com.au/interactive/2008/national/islamic-surfboard/index.html And girls in Burqinis! Part of me says 'each culture can have its own way of doing surf' - but another part finds the closetting of women behind scarves, veils (and male dominance) to be retrograde rubb...

Just making the point. It's a 17 year old girl and people on here are making sexual innuendoes about her. A bit gross and not what they'd do face to face I'm sure. Yeah - the general point might be right, but there's an awful lot in these threads that's offensive in the name of humour, and humour k...

Just wanted to say hi. Good thread this one. BB I'm a little bit scared by that! Is it the calm before the vitriolic storm? Is BB really saying something else? Has he handed over his web persona to his 13 year-old nephew while he's busy with the Ice pipe in the next room? Has he found love? That mi...

Jeez I'm surprised by the range of odd craft scribes in these threads ride. So it's you b*rstards who keep clogging the line-ups and going over the falls! Kneelos? Stand-up! Longboards? Don't do it. I'm a normal shortboard Fascist I guess: 4 shortboards most of the time 6 1, 6 3 for small (6 2 comin...
