Re: Ask Carroll

I used to use Word, but I tend to write in Google Docs these days, largely because it's free. My drafts are automatically stored in the cloud, I can do sharing (as long as those people I am sharing with also have Google accounts.) I've got Pages, but I don't really like it. It's probably just a matt...

Re: Ask Carroll

Maybe in a month or so, I'm getting some new boards and would hate it to be out of date Do you keep a diary/list of all the boards you have ever had (or most of them) or do you just have a good memory? one of my dad's mates has every board, every surf diarised since he started back in the 1960s. Bo...

What ever happened to full deck grip?

I pulled out one of my old Simons from the early nineties the other day to have a look. It also inspired some reminiscing based on the fact it had full deck grip. Why did full deck grip fall out of favour? Tailpads are common these days, but I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a front foot pad -...

Butterbox is crap 90% of the time - but the remaining 10% is fun.

Re: Ask Carroll

I've had some fun surfs at cross waves in the right swell. Haven't surfed it for a long time though. Like wise used to wait for the southerly busters as a grom and run around from Bungan :-D-: it can be great or a mere novelty , snapped a board there many years ago I've had some great waves out the...

Re: Ask Carroll

I like the board reviews and accompanying videos. They're interesting. I think having them reviewed by good surfers is the only way to go. I also don't see any problem with the board makers buying a page of advertising - the reader would have to be pretty thick to not realise there's a commercial as...

Re: Business idea

I wonder what one of those lifeboats is worth? How many did we buy, and are we treating them as disposable?

Does the navy just bung the asylum seekers on there and give it a push toward indo, or does the lifeboat have a means of locomotion (aside from oars)?

Re: 5 Most Consistant Waves in Australia

What about the five hoaxiest waves in Australia
I'll go first: butterbox / centuries / dontals - anything involving long reef headland.

Re: Ask Carroll

What ever happened to Nick Wood? I remember ten years ago or so I was doing a story on surfing for a national mag I worked on. It ended up on the cover (the cover shot being an excellent photo of TC massively grinning in a barrel). I wish I still had a copy. In any case ... When I was researching it...

mrpotato wrote:What are the dimensions/shape of the of TOE model and roughly how much for custom?
I have a 6'10, sis has a 6'6" and the old man has a 6'9". I suspect Simon could blow it out to around 7'2" if you asked. For various reasons I don't know what the standard price for a custom is.

Re: Board in between shorty and mal

Simon Anderson has an unlisted model called the TOE. It's what I currently ride. I've had a waterskate in the past, and the TOE, while being conceptually similar, is a superior board in terms of design, performance and finish. The only issue is getting one - you pretty much need to order a custom, b...

Common Trev you're smarter than that...it was tongue in cheek. In the context of what I was saying...the demons I was refering to was the guilt he was feeling for not competing in South Africa. A cynical joke. were you at the preso yesterday, KK? I was, on and off. You shoulda come introduced yours...

Red Bull Decades

stumbled across this web series the other day. Red Bull paid for a bunch of its surfers (julian wilson, Kolohe andino etc) to get on a boat and ride recreations of boards from various eras, including a Lopez pipe gun, Pottz 80s twinny and others. It's worth a look I reckon. all the episodes are link...
