Alternative is the new mainstream is the new alternative.

Re: Longboard nose dives.
Sorry mate, no clues from me on southside ding repairs. Roy - appreciate your comment on fin size and the fact that apparently contradictory principles can apply - if you don't look into the details too much. How do you define big for example? Length of finbase? Area? Height? All of the above? Sound...

Re: a question for fellow Longboarders
I ride longboards (or longer boards as well) in overhead waves fairly regularly and pretty much duckdive all the time. Sinking the nose first is important followed by pushing the board down and through the clear water underneath using your arms & one foot. Don't use your knee - you cant get enough l...

Re: Longboard nose dives.
Rocker can be the killer of speed if its all wrong - ie too curvy in the wrong places. Ditto fins. Too big or wrong angles will make a board surf very poorly.

Re: Board buying advice needed
Re: south points. In my view they seem to be reasonable boards at the lowish end of the epoxy price range. Not my cup of tea and I've never owned one but good for some I'm sure. Ditto for Bic which although they look like a windsurfers idea of a surfboard, actually ride quite well. You're not gettin...

Hi Jamp,
Like Buzzy, I'm curious but its a bit long for me - for that kind of board. Nice looking though. Sold it yet?

Re: My new Baby...alternative?????
FWIW - the layout that I look at here is terrible. Miss-aligned and hard to follow. Could be the filters etc that are running on this machine too though. As for the board - sounds like we are almost violently agreeing. Its a lot of money for a replica but......if thats your thing then thats ok with ...

Re: My new Baby...alternative?????
Appreciate that you can match the price of the Hynson 3-fold Mark but.......you're not Mike Hynson. If you just want to compete on price then you're missing the point. People buy boards like this partly to buy a piece of the legend. The design, quality & function need to be there but there's that X-...

Well theres a few of us that would like to take some comfort in being useless old buggers Clif but Gerry Lopez and others are out there keeping us honest on that count. Age is no excuse.

Iggy - I think you'll find that Simon shapes all his boards. I could be wrong but my brother worked with him for years on his computor pre-shapes and I don't think anyone else was involved. I tend to get my boards from one guy ( Rex Marechal) but have also quite a few from a motley collection of peo...

Re: Pro Surfers Height and WeightSaw
Height doesn't really matter if you've got coordination, fitness & motivation. Short or tall, all body shapes can excel if they really want to. Simon Anderson won the pipe masters ( tall dude) and so did Derek Ho ( short dude). Whats more important for tall people is to make sure they're not riding ...

Re: Where are they now ??????
I wasn't old enough to really know what was going on but my money is on the Lazor Zap being around in the early to mid 1980's. The irony is that the planshape was ahead of its time ( perhaps the whole board was) and the movement of volume to the tail benefitted the tr-fins immensely. I WAS old enoug...

Re: Where are they now ??????
I'm really struggling to believe that is Ross Marshall - looks more like a Russian Grandmaster or similar. Can someone find a picture of Ross in his Cronulla/South Coast heyday to compare? TMC - I could be wrong, it was about 20 years ago - but I'm pretty sure that we were surfing righthanders on th...

Re: Where are they now ??????
Isn't Larry Blair a chef at Terrigal? Went to the world masters a few years ago I think - when then held it in hollow lefthanders. Or perhaps that was a pipe reunion? Is that seriously Ross Marshall playing chess? Paul Green walked away from the contest scene early on when his dad offered to back hi...

Re: Who rides a 9'er in beachies everyday, and what make, size ?
Dae - Riding a bike with a board on the side all the way from BrisVegas down to the GC or up north just sounds like hard, dangerous work. Its a bit different to shooting out to Ulu. If you can't find a mate or relo with a house that you can stash at I'd consider buying a cheap car for <$2000. There'...

Re: Who rides a 9'er in beachies everyday, and what make, size ?
I have a 9'3 custom shaped by Lincoln Pascoe ( central coast - doesn't do many longboards) which I can ride in ALL sizes if the urge takes me. It has modern rails and a rounded pin tail with fin boxes to allow either bonzer or single configurations. I usually ride it single with a high-aspect Greeno...

Re: "Breath" by Tim Winton
I've read The Rip and rate it. I like Drewes work so keep that in mind but its a neat little book with a nice range of stories. Like TW, RB specialises in coastal Australian life although often with a deceptively simple approach. I can go on if you like but really you should just get out and read it.
