Re: Just general surfing stuff
Craig, if as you say, your swellnet model is also incorrect because of this anomoly, and you can recognise the model anomaly easily, this seems to indicate that the factors involved may be sufficient to enable you to code up a patch to recognise and correct the discepancy and modify the swellnet su...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
That's what I'm pointing out Cranked, that jump is not natural and not what you'll see in real life, it's the models incorrectly combining the swells which I've learned to identify easily. This is also why those who look at just windguru etc and see 18s swell arriving with no size, but with an exist...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
so saying the forecast kJs are incorrect is the same as saying the swell height and/or period for the predominant swell are incorrect. Yes, I'm saying the models get this wrong plenty of times and this is when you'll get a wrong forecast. Tomorrow for example, we've got an existing SW swell across ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Wow what have I just read :o Kilojoules for wave forecasting.. a product of period and open ocean swell height which generally get incorrectly combined if there's multiple swells from the same angle or similar periods. It's jiberish and looking at Sydney today KJ's are 261 but south facing beaches a...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Um, Braithy that is the CW cam and Ben wouldn't be posting screenies of their cam, haha. Also, you're correct with the reverse current on east swells, but.. all the wave action is pushing down the points to the north and this is where all the sand is being transported. The reverse rip is a small cha...

Re: bali forecast
Beanpole, not looking good for the Seminyak area when you arrive. Active monsoon will bring fresh to strong onshore W'ly winds that should back off from about Tuesday the 20th and then become more variable. Swell wise, there's an OK pulse Sunday to an inconsistent 3-5ft at exposed breaks then nothin...

Re: Spring fourteen
It won't be anything like the size across NSW, but should still see headhigh sets out the back at Snapper tomorrow. Periods strong and hit 16s at Coffs.

Re: Spring fourteen
Iggs, swell front only due from midday up the North Coast and is filling in as expected from Steve's reports. Low pushed north of the Seal Rocks region so not blocked at all by Treach etc. With those core winds a very large and late kick in swell should be seen on the North Coast. https://s3.amazona...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
As Iggs has explained, Deadies is a beast and unpredictable. I've watched it on so many swells/different moods/tides, and the one thing that stands out is that it's never easy. I've seen it super playful 6-8ft on a high tide with no ugly step, going from the outside reef right through to the end sec...

Re: winter fourteen
hey sasurfa maybe you guys should start screaming at the newspapers etc 'cause there'll be a bunch of rock fishermen in the wrong places tomorrow morning. We've issued media releases before but they're usually only run if the wave height predictions are enormous or there is some other degree of new...

You have to buy a subscription to see the 16-day forecast pirate_agenda. Very useful if you're planning a trip over that way.

I write up a Bali/Mentawai forecast every Tuesday and Thursday. Here's the latest one: https://www.swellnet.com/reports/forecaster-notes/bali-sumbawa-east-java/2014/06/19/bali-three-large-swells-within-week And you can check the forecast graph here: https://www.swellnet.com/reports/indonesia/bali/ul...

Re: winter fourteen
Hi guys, the 16-day forecast has its strengths and weaknesses, all mainly depending on which coast you're looking at. For Indo, Cloudbreak, Teahupoo, WA and any other west facing coast that receives long-range groundswell it's great. If you also work in the movement of the Long Wave Trough and where...

Re: South coast this week?
Mr Vic, It'll be worth a surf between Ulludulla and Nowra from Thursday through Friday. A new south swell is due and with winds swinging E/NE Thursday arvo and N/NE all day Friday there'll be at least one classic left reef working, with a good beachy as well all within about 40 mins of each other. C...

Re: TC Freda
Sorry Don, but the peak can't have changed around over the last 18 hours as the swell's already been generated. It will occur tomorrow morning and unfortunately it doesn't look to be as big as I forecast on Monday. Bit of a let down but really tricky to forecast.

Re: my prediction for summer
Hi Braithy, yeah these systems aren't good swell producers for Sydney and Southern NSW let alone the Tassie East Coast, but in saying that the further south-west it protrudes and the longer it hags around, the greater the chance of some noticeable swell making its way down to you. It's a real long s...
