what shits me is people who claim you dropped in when you were up and riding before they took off on the inside... and its usually local crew who try and uphold this pretty grey area of the surfing 'law' i agree with the other guy who said if you're caught up in the lip and bail, its a far worse sit...

I have just started reading this latest Winton book. And it feels like I am continuing what he has started with CLoudstreet. his books feel like one entire novel, interconnected with all the characters seeming to know each other. Winton himself has actually admitted this. But his descriptions of sur...

the best place to get boards is obviously at puerto. but they are mostly just repaired snapped ones. and they are pretty pricey. mexicans are ****. there are some good ones in el salvador. nothing in guatemala. getting boards through this area is pretty easy if you have patience. take your boards if...

i agree with nick. obviously you need a little core strength and arm strength to get to your feet, but if you time it correctly, momentum will push you up and to your feet. picking the part of the wave where it will require little effort to stand up is the most important factor. hence, water time. a...

8-10 feet Pacasmayo....200m past the point to the bay. bout a km...minute and half...perhaps more. ps longer than chicama when it gets massive. Reo Nexpa 400m Lobitos - the 3 sections from el hueco to the end of lobitos. not sure how long but if youve been it take a good 20 minutes - 30 minutes to w...

nick, point taken. however the biomechanics of a high elbow action whilst paddling must surely be promoted by adequate back extension. having poor static back strength will do nothing for a high elbow action. i am making the point that whilst swimming has obvious cardio benefits, it is not a total s...

enjoyed the posts re swimming technique. however there was only one post about the benefits of swimming for paddling. the main benefit of swimming for surf training is in its way of increasing lung capacity. great to decrease breaths per lap for those long hold downs on big days. the only good way o...

i didnt say it did. i said he would get better waves in peru. sure indo has flawless reefs, but most are filled with once a year wave hogs and 2nd tier pros. lobitos is longer, more consistent than deserts. i know where i would rather be. def not josting in g-land or ulus or even these days one palm...

you will def get better waves in peru than in indo...and with no crowds. i agree with the previous post. dont take any notice of the bad stories being posted. i was told the same things before i left. i did pretty much all the countries in south america, including the infamous darien coastline in co...

in regard to your q carpark king... yeah probably your quiver will suffice. lobitos and negritos etc are quite heavy waves which will easily snap your boards, like they did mine. the surf can get big but not immense. you probably dont need a gun. having said that, taking lots of boards up there is a...

central america
ok, having read your post, its looks like you are a bit of a soul surfer. basically, from my experience - last year I spent 10 months going from mex, thru central, then south america. I think if you are studying in Mexico, you should probably do some volunteer work in Central, makes sense. Volunteer...

Thanks SC, looks like there are not many intrepid surf travellers out there... Think il take my 6'3 fish for the points and buy a gun for the bigger days over there. Did you have any troubles travelling overland through central america? any more advice? Just thought i'd add, byron is all time at the...
