Crowd can be heavy - depends on how many boats dock themselves right next to the break. The boats can come in right next to the reef - great viewing of an afternoon when it is going off. I suspect early mornings, tide dependant would be ok crowd wise depending on how many boats are in the area.

Yes a very fast wave, you think you are going to make the section but it so quick. That being said it is not usually as crowded as Bingin or Ulu's, so you can usually get your fair share of waves. I found it best on a mid to low tide.

If I was you I would plonk myself in Bali on the Bukit for a few weeks - heaps of options and $2K would go a long way. yes there are crowds but just get up very early each day and get a surf in before it gets too crowded. Food, booze, transport all cheap.

I have done Bingin on the Bukit with the wife and kid/s a couple of times, PM me and I will give you what I think is the best way to have a great time and make sure you get heaps of waves and keep the wife happy at the same time
