Re: Mozzies on Mentawai boat charters

You won't need one - the times I have been I haven't seen hardly any - you just walk around in boardies and throw a t-shirt on at night

Re: Tonga??

If you are looking for consistent surf I wouldn't bother, I have been and wouldn't go back again. Very inconsistent and tide related, can only surf a couple of hours either side of high tide. They get the best swell in summer so winter can be even worse. I would be more inclined to head towards indo...

Re: Why did I let this happen to me?

All my life I was always the fat kid, then the fat teenager and then I went to uni for about 8 years and became an elephant. When I left uni I was close to 135kg's. I work in the professional sports industry so it wasn't a good look being the fat bloke around all the fit athletes. So about 7 or 8 ye...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Beachbanga, i have surfed at Tibir St for the past 3 days around the high tide, not perfect as been onshore but I reckon I have scored more wavesin total in these sessions than I have in the last 3 or 4 months in NSW. Tibir can be a bit fat and lumpy but it is reliable and suprisingly the crowd fact...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Thanks Hatchman, surfed a right hand reef break between Rye and Sorrento for 3hours today, not perfect but great compared to the crap conditions faced in NSW of late. And a crowd of only 8 people, how good is that in the middle of summer and holidays.Wore aspringy and the water temp was great. Can't w...

Re: Thoughts on a Macaronis Resort trip.

I think you have made a wise choice here. Kandui is right in the middle of the playgrounds region. When the swell is big the more epic breaks like Rifles work and when it is smaller there are still plenty of other breaks around that will pick up the swell. The only issue you have is that when the sw...

Re: Merkin needs a holiday...

As guard said there are 2 takeoff spots at HT's - outside when it is big and then inside as it wraps back on the reef. The better surfers can make it all the way from outside all the way through to the inside. Last boat trip we surfed it twice - at least 3 to 4 boats in the channel each time so it c...

Re: Merkin needs a holiday...

Crowd can be heavy - depends on how many boats dock themselves right next to the break. The boats can come in right next to the reef - great viewing of an afternoon when it is going off. I suspect early mornings, tide dependant would be ok crowd wise depending on how many boats are in the area.

Re: Impossibles

Yes a very fast wave, you think you are going to make the section but it so quick. That being said it is not usually as crowded as Bingin or Ulu's, so you can usually get your fair share of waves. I found it best on a mid to low tide.

Re: $2K Surf Trip...

If I was you I would plonk myself in Bali on the Bukit for a few weeks - heaps of options and $2K would go a long way. yes there are crowds but just get up very early each day and get a surf in before it gets too crowded. Food, booze, transport all cheap.

Re: kauai?

I am looking to take the wife and 2 kids to Hawaii late next February, so towards the end of the season. I saw this thread and hope there might be some suggestions of good kid friendly places to stay on the north shore. My wife is pretty cruisy but will want a nice beach where the boys can have a sw...

Re: Ments Boat Trip Advice

Yeah Scuzz's boats are quality, plenty of room and he will take you away from the crowds - he has great knowledge of the conditions - especially when there is a lack of swell, he will find you waves and he charges hard as well. I have been twice to the Mentawiis and would definitely go with Scuzz ne...

Are you joking?? 4 foot south curly wipeout does not compare at all to any wipeout at a place like "Ours" - either you are trying to be funny or you have no idea at all.

Re: Fiji In June

Sorry I meant to say I wouldn't be going towards Frigates if I was with my missus not Tavarua. If you have the coin stay at Tavarua for sure - if you can afford the price tag of around $250US per person per night, not $250US per couple per night. I have never stayed there but went to have a look on ...

Re: Fiji In June

I have been to Fiji a couple of times and if you are going with your missus and surf is not number 1 priority I would do the following: - stay at one of the nice resorts on Denarau Island (the man made island) for a few nights, the new Sofitel is great, the missus will love it, you can easily get be...
