Re: Just general surfing stuff

I watched The Occy Interview with Gordon Merchant. That's a really informative bit of history. The effect Occy winning in the USA had as they were breaking into the market was interesting.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

This swell is really south. It was smashing into Clovelly Pool. Missing most of Coogee except the big outside break past the Southie. Southie itself wasn't really doing much. Big lefts outside though. Two guys paddled out while we watched but seemed to be off the peak by a long shot. Big wait btween...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Anyone had experience with one of these? There's one on gumtree I'm considering. http://www.bourtonshapes.com/the-stinger/ http://www.bourtonshapes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/bottom-550x205.jpg Murray is a highly regarded shaper, he has also worked closely with Bruce McKee in the past, and that...

First time for me wearing a long sleeved top with 1 mm neoprene front and back panels in indo The rest of the top is some thick Lycra type thing Loving it - no rash. No sunburn no sunscreen. Warm in the wind. And cool in the sun because of the retained water May I introduce the long sleeved rash ve...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Got motivated and tried to outwit the road blocks to get down to the beach. Retreated after a couple of attempts and found plenty of parks at Bronte. Actually managed to snare a couple of dubious runners over the reef. Nice to get wet. Im with you Trev. I would have been all over those waves at Cron...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

It attracts dunderheads. I've got a mate who doesn't surf but was immediately drawn to the idea. He would be the definitive dangerous kook if he ever managed to get on one. Entitled and a bit of a Mr Magoo on the road.

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

Definitely agree. For all the frothing most surfers don't actually want to confront getting caught inside by overhead waves on a shallow sharp reef. Crowd wise when we were there it was basically Pros and a few tourists at Cloudbreak. The fact that I managed to nab a few waves out there is testament...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Snuck out for a paddle at about 11:00. Parked up the top. Bit of a left running through. Too many people to dodge though. Just about every wave involved at least one strategic manouvre to avoid hitting or getting hit. One wave involved about five encounters including drop ins by guys going finless.

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

I'm a bit motivated to go further afield there now. Might organise going over to the other big island and check out some spots out there next time. My wife was talking about going back at Xmas but that seems like a pretty bad time to be there. I thought the cost for the surf was basically okay. It's...

You get a lot more for your money in other countries. Stayed in a comfy cheapish place out at New Town Beach. Two nights in Denarau was more than enough.

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

From what I gathered the boats always have a Fijian on board. This also helps with resort disputes about who has the right to surf various breaks now that it's been opened up. The Fijian guys tend to paddle out more when there are guys who work for resorts out in the water. There's obviously a lot o...

Re: Fiji - Denarau in August

They drop you off the boat back at your hotel sometimes. Trip is as good as the Captain. If you have about four or five you can just about hire the boat and have more control over where you go. Second time we went out there were five of us. Wife and daughter paid $100 to go snorkelling. Both boats w...
