I think we were supposed to watch this and think "legend" but I thought it was a bit haunting, even scary
How "old" Nick?
I'm not sure, maybe 60? I'm not sure even he knew.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

It's fcuken fun as shit down here today. Sad news, Bob, an old bloke who lived in his car above Little Avalon, drowned today after his legrope was caught in rock. Someone made a film about Bob for the FlickrFest thing, I'll see if I can find it Sad news indeed. Mate and I rescued a kid who got his ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Steve. Once again, the msw Lennox forecast is for the swell on your nearest buoy. It tells you their guess for swell height and period and also swell direction. This is verifiable quite easily from actual buoy readings. I don’t know why it has a Lennox forecast that isn’t directly relevant to the a...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I reckon swellnet gets it right more often than other sites. It’s a notch up on coastalwatch, and makes most other sites look a little embarrassing. The east coast of Australia must be particularly difficult to pin down, with the mix of different swell sources and weird refracted south swells. Can’...

I bet Nick has a few.
I have had a few, only got one at present, a 12’0” PSV

Dave is really good at the “hard” planing curve, I think he got a lot out of Rusty’s early to mid 80s square squash thrusters, they had really subtle curves.

Ah yes the spirit cave. So fleeting! So private! Except when you’re in a heat and 1.6k people are watching.

Man someone oughta take JW out and slap him.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

It’s pretty obvious. A joule is equal to the energy transferred to an object when a force of one newton acts on that object in the direction of its motion through a distance of one metre (1 newton metre or N⋅m). Or in other words kg * m 2 / s 2 ; where kg is the kilogram, m is the metre, s is the s...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

nah it's fine, 2000 calories? most of us would walk that off. it is actually the thing that's been troubling me about all this fcuken Kilojoule talk though. What does it mean? Does it mean how much energy passes a certain point in a certain time? Does it mean the energy contained in some portion of ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Note how Pat never ever puts a feet or metre or "overhead" or whatever size on it. He only ever talks about rises and falls, trends up and down, swell angles and winds/surface pressure features

Any time you are within cooee of Hawaiian waters you'd be advised to tune into Pat and stay there.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Magic Seaweed's blurb on NSW. Can you spot the error Godsave? "ABOUT NEW SOUTH WALES New South Wales, home to Sydney and Byron Bay is an epicentre of world surfing. South-east facing, the coastline picks up any west swells and some north-easterly during summer, including the occasional cyclone swel...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah I am not a fan of those ocean skis, they might be lighter and with lower seats for the “cyclist” paddler but a spec ski is way better for classic short runs.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Oh btw trev you might see another pulse from the east around Weds, from a similar wind band associated with a cutoff low NE of NZ. It won’t be much because that low is regressing east on a Sacred Mission to destroy the Teahupoo CT, but it’ll be something.
