Re: Pipe Masters 2017

People were! I paddled out with Davo when the crew started towing and the first thing I saw was the wave that ripped Bruce Irons's board shorts off. We sat in the channel a bit inside the boats, of which there were quite a few. We kind of played dodgems a bit with the sets, it was fcuked up. 25-30' ...

Re: Pipe Masters 2017

so you reckon teahupoo, heavier than pipe? I've been scared at 4-6 (lets be real it was 5 foot, haha) pipe ... but small teahupoo was proper fun. well they both have their days, like Pipe is harder to figure out and you're probably more likely to die there because there is so much sudden unpredicta...

Re: Pipe Masters 2017

ha ha Teahupoo under six foot pretty much cut Keala Kennelly's face off. it was 6-8 when keala came off. that was the tail end of the code red swell, which had heaps of west in it. ie the end pinches pretty much on dry reef if you don't flick off the wave. I was there. Standing right in front of it...

Is it the worlds most difficult paddle in wave? Yes I know you can paddle into big waves ala Mavericks and the footage of No Kandiu is amazing, but big Pipe on a tricky swell angle the zenith?
no way, places like Jaws at size are way harder.

Re: Pipe Masters 2017

ha ha Teahupoo under six foot pretty much cut Keala Kennelly's face off. all these spots have different moods, like anywhere, Pipe has a lot more different moods than Teahupoo because it's exposed to a much wider array of conditions and swell types. It'll look like a closeout one day and perfection ...

Re: Pipe Masters 2017

Looks steep as fk. Nick - in say the 6-8 foot range - in terms of criticality- how does banzai pipe compare with redsands or cowries in SH ? Because that’s proper heebie jeebies surf. ha ha ha it's a complete other level. When it's being itself, Pipeline doesn't just pitch, it lurches and twists at...

hands up who on realsurf could take off on that.
Ah it’s not that hard, what’s hard is picking the right wave out of a crowd. If there’s three people out and it’s a soft back end swell like yesterday I bet you’d be all over it lucky al. Like a rash!

Re: Pipe Masters 2017

I am wondering if Kelly's competing will generate more headlines than the world title. I doubt it. He's still a favourite surfer, but competitively, I think most of us have moved on. Also, I get the impression it's not going to be primo Pipe which doesn't help him. Ha ha you're not writing the head...

"deserves", ah ah ha fcuk that.

I am wondering if Kelly's competing will generate more headlines than the world title.

Fcuken guaranteed, some unexpected shit will go down at this contest. Everyone's all "Will JFF win or will Gabriel win", but there's more than two people involved here.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

ah I don't reckon. I know the five plug thing is kinda the go to for models in shops these days but five plugs tend to block up the tail flex. And the performance values are quite different, like if you want a quad get a quad, at that length it'll probably be a swallowtail anyway.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Well hatchy that is a pretty straightforward and popular recipe in modern hi per surfing, you'll find heaps of versions of it in shop racks. I think a lot of boardmakers have been influenced by the past couple of excellent seasons in Indo and also by JJF/Pyzel's success with that stye of board (see ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

endorphins? short term opiate-style buzz. why you feel so good physically after a surf in which you paddle hard and get pumped. not why you feel light and loose next day. Why do I always crave a beer after one of those sessions? Health lunatics would be horrified to hear this but a couple of beers ...

what about stoke?

That must produce a few counter-vailing chemicals in the bloodstream.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

ha ha what ctd is talking about is a wash-out if you're constantly exercising the poundings yesterday will have worked a lot of shit out of your muscles that otherwise might be crimping you today. Heaps of oxygenated blood washing through ya. you don't get that predictable muscle soreness on cue unl...
