Rob Machado has lovely style. Is style underrated today?
Not if you consider his endorsement contracts, Rob’s been pulling vast fortunes for over a decade based solely on that lovely style

Re: Just general surfing stuff

https://www.swellnet.com/news/swellnet-dispatch/2018/09/18/not-surfing-drowning 20% of surfers self report that they cannot or are weak swimmers in the surf. Must be a large foreign contingent I'm guessing or older surfers who don't live near the water who dabble now and again. That’s an underestim...

Re: Wave models

Don't rate Windguru Nick? For what? The source info is available, why look at some stupid graph? So you know there’s gonna be a southerly change? That’s got fcuk all to do with what the surf is gonna be like, ie what swell will be generated toward your coast. The best day of surf in the Sydney regi...

Re: Wave models

Forget the stupid on site reports. That’s not forecasting. If you want to know what will happen in Bali in several days’ time, look at the real time MSLP charts for the distal Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean. They will show you the actual winds which are producing the swells that may or may not stri...

Re: Wave models

It's shit, all of it, cheap offshoots of source data, clumsy and badly graphed. Actual good surf forecast sites like Surfline spend a lot of time and money both accessing directly from NOAA and ECMRW and on carefully writing and re-writing their own interpretive software. They do crazy shit. They're...

No argument re long range swell but to say it doesn’t break at 8ft is complete twaddle.
I said “it barely breaks” you filthy beanpole.

Re: Mentawai quiver.

Carroll proven get again that even though he has dedicated his life to surfing, he is still a bit of a kook. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m a fcuken cnut. Lil bro christened that spot on a 7’6” Parmenter widowmaker, I surfed it quite a bit in the late 90s, it’s a deepwater reef as p...

I surfed Icelands at 8ft where nearby breaks were 4. It really picks up swell. Not just a directional thing.

a) Iceland barely breaks at 8'
:-o
Its cool, I must have been completely wrong, as were the people who had been living and surfing there for 10 years.

Re: Mentawai quiver.

a) Iceland barely breaks at 8' b) It's a long interval spot, it dwindles when the interval drops below 17sec. Not a great guide to the average surf size in the Mentawai chain. There's hundreds of spots up there facing every which way. Iceland's neighbour Teles is a better guide. I dunno about the re...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

For JJF types, pro surfing and a successful "free" surfing career are interdependent. You can throw names like Mason Ho around but his success is minuscule compared to JJF, Medina, Fanning etc.. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking pro surfing isn't a catalyst for major surfing success. Overall, ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I watched zero pool. I watched Space several times. So I'm definitely not the same people watching both. Well you are one of around a million point two people who seem keen enough to stay in touch with surfing on a consistent basis worldwide. This based on regular viewership of the main surf foreca...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Well yeah, I guess I am thinking more about the WSL’s stated aim of expanding the pro tour viewership beyond the surfing core audience. An aim which as far as I can tell has so far completely avoided them. They don’t really get that their actions are in constant comparison with both the history of t...

So the supposed only screening of jjf’s clip had the same number of viewers as a WSL contest
So Jjf doesn’t need the WSL
All this really tells ya is that roughly the same people are watching both.

Re: Mentawai quiver.

Have a good time up there steve, hope you get a couple of the straggly bomb sets

There’s been a lot of sea state down in the engine room so anything coming off a well angled wind will probably have a little bit more going for it than first appears.
