Re: the young clubbie killed at the aust titles on the goldy

Background Briefing on Radio National has just done a program on the deaths at the clubbie contests. It raises quite a few questions. Worth a listen.

Re: Sri Lanka

I just don't think the Indos could ever be organised enough to embark on systematic genocide. How about up to two million Indonesian communists and communist sympathisers killed in the backlash against an alleged attempt to overthrow the Sukarno government in 1965. How about over 250,000 deaths in ...

Re: rotator cuff injuries

It might not be the rotator cuff that's damaged. Go see a doctor and get some xrays and ultrasounds of the joint. They should indicate the nature of the problem and give the doc an idea of the best course of treatment.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Can't beat spanish mackerel cutlets done two minutes a side on a very hot griddle and served with a salsa verde - same for kingie cutlets. Reckon ocean jackets are one of the most underrated fish around, and ridiculously cheap. Like them grilled and served with a caper, parsley and butter sauce. Rec...

Re: Bells this year ?

Thought Fanning won it fair and square. Apart from the stumble on the shorebreak, don't think his 9.7 wave could have been ridden any better by anyone. Turns just so critical and committed and composed. In contrast, thought Slater's 360, while radical, was not executed cleanly. There was a slightly ...

Re: What's to be done with SUPs

Kind of a tricky one, this. Usually when they turn up I have an "oh-shit-no" moment, but usually it doesn't turn out as bad as that initial reaction. I've even had some good sessions in amongst packs of SUPs, mainly because they've acted as a bit of a repellant to other shortboarders. This morning, ...

Re: the young clubbie killed at the aust titles on the goldy

the talk about inflatable vests. Wouldn't they make it difficult to dive under waves and out of control skis/boards? Or do they only inflate in the event of an accident and if so, how? Heard a radio interview with some official from SLSA this morning. He pointed out the problems with flotation vest...

Re: Good people in the Industry

Mike Psillakis - good surfer/shaper, and no BS (plus he's shaped me a couple of great boards).

Simon Anderson - the number one contributor to the development of modern surfing (via the thruster), and with bugger all reward (no patent pending).

I'm worried about his knees. Surfing in a permanent squat has got to be doing damage.

Re: the surf whistler

I sometimes find myself whistling in the surf. It seems to happen unconsciously. Usually its the tune to some song I was listening to in the car on the way down. It usually happens when I'm feeling relaxed and confident. I'm not going to read too much into it, or anything at all for that matter. Som...

Re: Where have the forums gone?

Removing the forums from the homepage is what is euphemistically known as a "courageous" decision - i.e., totally insane.

Don can look forward to a steady decline in visits to the site. I know that I'm checking it out less and less.

Re: what's the shittest wave in sydney?

Warriewood is right up there with the dogs. Not only is it usually closing out it is also the home to some of the most demented "locals" on the Northern Beaches. I mean, you do have to wonder about them. With Mona Vale just to the north and Northie just to the south, why would anyone choose Warriewo...

Re: Best wetsuit you have had

Bought a west 3x2 steamer a month or so ago and it's great, the neoprene in the arms is so bloody flexible and doesnt hamper paddling much at all. It has often been a little too warm after a lengthy paddle out. Noticed the glued seams starting to pull apart last week (pretty much all over the suit)...

What about Mark Rabbidge? A real craftsman with decades of experience. Shapes a godd longboard so I hear but is a bit of a knob me thinks.. Told me once that he pioneered the Super Twin model that MR shapes.. Which I don't think is the case.. There's a lot of people riding Rabbidge shortboards (and...
