Re: Summer shapes ???

seems like the most popular time for a new board is when the bad waves are about to begin That's a very interesting observation. It's a behaviour that I've been prone to (for some reason I won't even try to understand or explain) and I've just fallen for it again, getting two new boards - a 6'2" an...

It could be worthwhile taking a look at what's available on eBay. You can pick up some bargain secondhand boards there.

If you want a new board try ordering direct from a shaper. $700 is the showroom price. Direct from the shaper should knock $150 to $200 off that.

What-a-ya-mean coming??

They never went away.

It's been the most crowded winter I can remember, whatever the time of day, or day of the week.

Reckon.

There were some sick, deep barrels being ridden, when I was watching anyway. But a lot of sketchy ones as well. The gems became rarer and rarer as the tide filled in.

A great spectacle.

Yes, a top guy. Full of great stories about the old days.

I remember him dropping into sets at Longie bombie back in the 1970s, when he must have been hitting 50. He was still doing the same thing 20 years later. A real inspiration to surfers of all ages.

Smoother and mellower (but only because it gets harder and harder to do a decent turn).

KK produces an anonymous blog as "evidence" to support his opinion and then issues a "challenge" to all and sundry to refute the claims in that blog. Well sorry KK, the blog has no credibility. Here's a challenge to you. Find some credible evidence supporting your view about Mandela. Something with ...

Sarah, Maid of Albion????

I just can't credit the crazed rantings of an anonymous blogger. Anyone who believes that shite needs their head read.

One of the appalling things about the internet is that any dumb son-of-a-bitch can dig up "evidence" supporting their ill-informed and rank views.

Um, interesting. Nelson Mandela goes to prison for 27 years for his beliefs but manages to survive the experience without any apparent hate or anger and then negotiates a peaceful transition of power that probably saves South Africa from a bloody civil war, and still some people rank him as a "basta...

Nelson Mandela is a hero. "Weary" Dunlop is a hero. Kelly Slater is just a sports star.

came up with some serious face damage ... it all ended there, he was never the same and never surfed the same again as long as I knew him ... he was still good, but he never went deep, never took big drops, and just calmed it all down ... it was all a bit sad if you think that one major nailing eff...

Larger outer fins and a smaller centre fin generally works for me. Say a G5 or GPR on the outside and a G3 in the centre. That sort of combo seems to loosen the board up a lot more than just a straight set of G5s or GPRs, for instance.

I mean there is and SDS in Parramatta and even a surf shop in Cessnock  What more can be said than that! And the only thing those places are selling is an image. You'd be lucky if they even stocked a decent block of wax. A Kelly Slater IMAX film could be rather inspiring. Trouble is that it'...

Was 'hanging 5' still considered a manoeuvre on the short boards then? In my memory those longboard manoeuvres were uncool on a short board even then :!: Sure was, though not so much hanging 5 as riding the nose. It was considered a bit of a "soul" move, as demonstrated in shot 1 above. That board ...

Pure  foley, or Webber’s next big thing so people might be more accepting http://www.webbersurfboards.com/ Out of interest, and at a slight tangent, has anyone here ever actually ever ridden a Webber "twin pin", or plain old Webber twin fin for that matter? I'm a bit underwhelmed. It has the makings of an improvement but there's been a few bad decisions along the way. My biggest beef is all the clicking that's required to get to the info. Two clicks to get to The Goats full forecast is two clicks too many. It's all too complicated, too fussy, too messy...
