Re: Fish or small wave performance?

Fin set-up is whatever was standard, back fins only slightly smaller than the front and they are foiled both sides. Going to have to ride it from the tail a little more and see how that goes? Still a great board, nice and nimble and easy to paddle, and it looks like a surfboard not a fish - so I fee...

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

I probably owe a review on my 6'0" Bourton Fat Bullet... I've had it for about 6 weeks and we've had some waves in Sydney so it's been well tested. Me, about 75kg and 185cm and <45 and >35 if that helps. Paddling out - excellent. lots of float. Paddling in - excellent, seems to act like a board with...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Same with me - North Steyne, guy drops in and has no idea - I make the section call and he does a top turn instead of pulling off... I run over his nice new board and miss a nice wall (luckily on an older very tough board) . He thinks he was in the right and that I snaked because he hadn't looked ri...

Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

yeah - I wasn't joking - I'm heading up to North Straddie next week... even the pass at byron has it's fair share of sightings almost daily so I'll just assume I'm not on the menu and surf when and where it's crowded... I'm nervous enough about the men in grey jackets without having that many around...

Re: massive shark packs attack surfers in QLD

Great news, I'm giong to North Straddie for Easter on a camping trip.

I've spent a bit of time around Moreton Bay and have seen some sharks, but are they really that bad on the surf side? Cylinders etc looks nice and the water's warm... what do I do, leave my board at home?!

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

I had a T&C Gunther Rohn, 6 channels - one of kerbox's old boards that I bought in bondi at the start of 89 that was a miracle board and I've been searching for another magic board since... I even have a fin that I kicked off it before I threw it out, brown, snapped, depressed and over used and over...

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

thanks axylotyl, you're not greg webber are you?? ;) But you are right, I'm actually talking about at four foot it slid weirdly, but I could never work out why? The only thing I could put it down to was speed, every time I was absolutely flying and needing to nurse it off the top in vertical hollow ...

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

Thanks for that I was seriously thinking of a webber mini fish but was turned off because I had an afterburner years ago that used to drift through turns in a weirdly out of control way in anything above four foot - had to tame it with fins off my gun! I'll go and have a look at one... Saw a nice ba...

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

Thanks Mark, To my mind (keeping in mind that I'm just a normal everyday punter and you're a shaper!) your quad shapes (pictures above) look like they need to be driven forwards through turns because of the long straightish line from hips to tail, as opposed to the hips being further back with a sho...

Re: Fish or small wave performance?

What I meant was has anybody ridden one - I'm looking for a quad performance shortboard so I don't have to ride my traditional fish anymore... I want to be a real surfer again with a pointy nosed craft!! I rode a quad in byron and loved it... desperately looking for a fat floaty, loose, fast down th...

Re: Bali - Family Friendly Surf Spots

Yep rode it atz a solid 6 foot but it was high tide and the beach was awash and really dangerous for kids. Dreamland was a tragedy - what a tragic waste by people who simply have no soul.... Third world nouveau mega-riche politically backed monsters. Love telling the locals about how our politicians...

Re: Suggested boards for Bali in September

For my trip I rode a 6'3 rounded pin, but would have liked a fish too. 6'8" dahlberg for the above 6 foot days just to nail the bottom turn when it's a little fast and furious.

Re: Bali - Family Friendly Surf Spots

Never really found one you know! Might just stick to Australia, we have better beaches, cleaner water, no health issues... but no Bali soul either... Favourite waves ended up being airport reefs, nice little boat trip, great waves, locals were OK too - can go there from jimbaran bay too which is goo...

Just checked out the kritta and probably not quite what I'm after... if it's too full in the nose I'll catch a rail, getting close though.

Re: Where are they now ??????

Saw kong at a party on the weekend.... He now runs Kong For Kids Swim School just north of Byron Bay, 2 indoor heated saltwater pools and he teaches kids to swim in the ocean too.... nice lifestyle change I reckon. My mate up there says the school is fantastic. He's also still surfing and said he go...
