Re: Just general surfing stuff
As I've probably bored you with before, my first board was a 5'8" squash tail single fin. I didn't know it at the time but it was originally shaped for Nat Young who rode it in the 1970 world contest at Johanna. My lil bro's first board was a Ron Wade 5'6" pop-out double ender singly. We got beyond...

Swellnet article written as though they found its location, but it seems the nerds on reddit had it hours earlier?

Ah, so you are not actually "shaping". From the way your phrased your comments I thought you were shaping, with templates from AKU.saltman wrote:Yes. I design using Aku. Have it cut then finish
I think the industry term for what you're doing is "scrubbing". Those that do it known as "scrubbers".

Ok, so this is where we meet and share our thoughts. Silly me, newbie and all, thinking it was where Mr Carroll dished out his pearls of wisdom. So, if you all don't mind, I'll add my confession here too. ... i've found over the years my mood kinda mirrors the ocean and the sand. when it's alive and...

45 minutes in out an gone I've watched a few guys who do it for a living and they're up around the 1.5 - 2.0 hr mark and are going flat chat at that - how they heck you doing it in 45 mins? Are you are using a preshape? So not working from a pure blank and using templates, mowing the foam by hand, ...

I do have a shed in my backyard but I borrow a shaping bay from the guy who does the glassing. Normally takes him a week to finish glassing in epoxy He uses heat lamps to cure the epoxy I use AKU for templates How long does it take you to shape a board? I've tried a few times, but don't seem to hav...

I don't get it. Why more right foot forward surfers at a left breaking wave? Or vice versa. Can't people surf backside? I like surfing backside, pushing through bottom turns and wrapping turns off the top backhand are awesome fun. I'd rather have a good wave, than focus on having a wave break in a p...

Nick, what % of surfers are goofy? Is it like a 50/50 split?. Totally useless fact I guess but I'm a little hungover and it's an idea running around my head right now. Well I think there's a more even split now than there has been in the past. Where I surf it feels pretty close to 50/50 but it prob...

Shark sightings for Mon, 17 Aug, 2015. 1. A shark was spotted at "Middles", Hastings Point, this morning - described as "very large" By who? Was it the same one Mick might have seen? Last four weeks, everyday, there has been a "sighting" at every spot I've surfed. Feeling like the boy who cried wol...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Steve, what about asking them all "how much time does it takes to make a board?" Be interesting to hear if there is any similarity, and it might alert a few people to just how much time is involved in making a board. Would be good to get a breakdown for comparison too, so say shaping, glassing, sand...
