Juan Fernandez islands...

Hi there! It seems that most of the time when I get online and make some sort of entry into these forums it is to request information, and rarely do I make a contribution to help answer others questions... However: I am currently hanging out in Santiago, Chile, and in a few dayts will be setting sai...

Sailing trip through the South Pacific...

Hi there, I am going to be heading over the Chile in just under three weeks, from there I am meeting with a friend of a friend and spending the next seven months sailing back to Australia across the Pacific. I am not completely sure on the exact itinerary, but we will certainly be heading to the Jua...

That's sweet that the Navier Stoke's equations still yield accurate solutions with massive meshes. Yeah, tidal simulation would be kind of interesting over there. I was over in that part of the world a couple of months ago and found that the tides were completely bizzare! Some days there would be ju...

Wow, 85 hours... How do you model current/circulation? I mean, is it a general sort of formula that is linked to the bathymetry of the ocean floor and shape of the coastline, or is it a model created by quantitative observations of the water movement in that area? Me, well I finished a degree in mec...

I just had a look at the COHERENS model site... Interesting stuff! It must be a pretty complex model to be able to take into account the biology, sediment, and contaminant transport within the system boundaries. What sort of grid size are you running, does the grid have a constant mesh size, and wha...

Cheers for the response everyone... SAsurfa, that does sound like an interesting project. Is there already software out there that models this kind of thing or are you having to start from ground up? What are you using to model it? Matlab, or something more specific? Also, thanks all for heads up on...

Just on the topic of older guys charging; seeing these pics of Bonza Connely reminded me of a pic of a good friends dad taken in the legendary 2001 east-coast swell. I just got him to email me a copy, and rather than posting the full image have just provided a link to it since the image is rather la...

Marcus: I would be totally stoked with the map of Montague Is to Jervis Bay. A lot of spots in that stretch of coast! If you can't convert to .jpg then I could pm you my email for a .tif copy... How come you have these charts anyway? Personal interest, or are they from work? SAsurfa: It gets deep re...

Bathymetry maps...

It's come up in conversation quite a few times now: What goes on underneath the oceans surface that causes some places to attract swell in the way they do. I have always thought that it would be interesting to have good quality bathymetry maps for my favourite spots. Does anyone know if there is a r...

Yeah, fair enough... Sounds like a really interesting guy. There are so many people out there with interesting stories to tell. I think it is people like Bonza that make a refreshing break for an interview from the heavily sponsored pro yet again scoring perfect Mentawais, and I am sure that heaps o...

Ohh, ok, didn't realise that buoyweather offered that as a service. What are peoples thoughts on the accuracy of buoyweather? I used to use it alot when I first started surfing, but found that the wind predictions were usually pretty funky and eventually started just using swellnet, and the realtime...

virtual buoys...

I was wondering if there is anywhere on the net that allows you to access the virtual buoy data for a specific longtitude and latitude in bar graph form. I find the coloured contour plots hard to work out the exact predicted value...
