Re: Wave models

And as I've pointed out before, kJs are very useful and I use them as, unlike swell height, kJs remain the same irrespective of whether a wave is a deep ocean swell, near coastal swell, or a breaking wave

Re: Wave models

Nick, around the bukit the Surf Forecast swell predictions are usually within 10% of the actual period/height about 90% of the time. The predicted variations during the day are usually correct within an hour or two. And the graphical user interface is excellent. There is no way I'm going to achieve ...

Re: Wave models

It's shit, all of it, cheap offshoots of source data, clumsy and badly graphed. Actual good surf forecast sites like Surfline spend a lot of time and money both accessing directly from NOAA and ECMRW and on carefully writing and re-writing their own interpretive software. They do crazy shit. They'r...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

And what a day to start: double overhead, perfect swell direction, light offshores and no crowds (WAM 4.1 now forecasts crowd size)

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I've consulted with my medical team - the Brazillian lady next door, a surfing mate and the matriarch of the clan where I'm staying - and the verdict is that I can resume surfing tomorrow!

Looks to be some fun sized swell on the Bukit today and going by the pic that Peter Jovic posted on his insta of W.A. theres a nice pulse heading up to Indo.
Its been head to double, with offshores and low crowds for a week now, with another week coming up as good or better.

Re: Wave models

And just to add another layer of complexity most wind wave models use various other forecast models as their inputs. And often the wind wave software is freely available and you can run it whenever you want - providing you have adequate hardware. Third parties can also provide datasets produced by o...

Wave models

This thread is for discussion of all wind wave software models. This wiki summarises some of the wind wave software models that are driving surf forecasting for all the big surf forecasting sites https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_wave_model I'm not sure which models are used by each site, and to ...

I've started using lances left as the proxy spot to check.
Surf Forecast is predicting 100-200kJ for Lances Left.

I hope they are wrong.

Make sure you have a clean page in your passport, if not you'll be refused entry. Offering lots of cash may help, sometimes not.

what do I need to pay to get into Indo Cranked?
They issue a 30 day visa on arrival for free so there's nothing to pay.
If you have more than 3 boards they might try to argue you are importing them to sell.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Waves have been consistently head and half to double, winds offshore and very light, crowds have gone, the sun is shining.

And I still can't surf.

Re: Mentawai quiver.

Only "correct" because above I gave a link to the Pacific instead of the Indian ocean animations. Thats just a sea height prog chart based on GFS data. I know, but it gives a clear dynamic visual image of the typical swell movement paths and decay: that is primarily to the E, less to the ENE (Perth ...
