Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

I think provoked/unprovoked is part of the stats that have been captured just about forever.

Re: Quiver thread

I was just browsing the guns in the Drifter store at Uluwatu. There were lots of guns by Pyzal, Brewer, McNeal, Lopez and others. But what caught my eye was a 9'3 by Kimo Greene from Sand Island Surfboards. It was thick, guessing 3.75", flat deck, down rails and a full length rounded V bottom and fi...

Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

True. I've got it in a narrow range now, and the Winged Keel is a bit less critical and easier to ride.

Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

The fcuking Astro Zot! This board should go down in surf history as the most frustrating board EVER designed. It has moments of sheer brilliance where it acccelerates and flows and turns on a dime, next moment though you're just fallen off like a right gumbie at some critical, or even worse some com...

What if its a rota virus giving you diarrhoea?
I hear what you're saying Steve , but by coincidence or not, my symptons virtually dissappeared about four hours after taking a big dose of antibiotics. I'm just thankful its gone

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Pretty good now thanks Sunny, antibiotics seemed to clear it up.

But jesus its hot and humid. Glad they brought in that 'realfeel' concept, its only 31C but it feels like 38C, and I think the air is thick and viscous, they should report on that too.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Just out the front, it was onshore, lumpy and small, but I needed a surf after 2 days of doing nothing and couldn't be bothered riding to the other side. When I paddled in there were 2 pommie surfers just about to paddle out, they asked me what it was like for gods sake, as if it was not completely ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Just buy a couple of metres of high quality marine rope, its vastly superior. I have some 4mm stuff thats rated for 275kg Thats nearly four realsurfers dangling over a cliff supported by a 4mm bit of twine. Should be adequate for your surfboard. When everthing else is long gone you'll still have tha...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I think your fins combo might be to small. With the GXQ maybe try 7ft plus middle.....if you can be bothered. Also the foil on the GXQ might be off. The GXQ base might not be giving you enough drive with shortish dolphin. Yeh try a 7 1/2 plus inch middle, if you have Back to trying 2+1. I found the...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Tracks was first published in October 1971 Surf culture was just slipstreaming a generation. That late! It felt like it was always there. So it was just Oz in the early sixties and Nation Review in 1970. Oz was not that serious at times, but Nation Review was, my generation really thought we had ar...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

We were lied to about weed and LSD Who lied to you and what about? In mid 60s the counter culture media (including Tracks) was heavily promoting "tune in, turn on and drop out". It was our manta. To combat this the established media and government campaigned heavily about the evils of drugs, and it...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Nearly all my friends had moved up to the mid and north coasts by about 1970. And there was the tragic story of a mate and his girlfriend who disappeared near Varanasi in about 1970 and were never heard from again. They owned half of a 100 acre property (another friend owned the other half) about 15...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

When were the storied cranky H days? 1968 to 1977 (17 to 26), the glory years for drug experimentation. Surfers/hippies were at its centre, travelling in asia and bringing stuff back. We were lied to about weed and LSD and didn't believe addiction was a thing as there were initially no addicts in o...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Nah. I was not focused on surfing at all. "Nothing memorable" was in response to Steve's query re surfing. As I said, I got them all windsurfing - sometimes more 10' plus waves in a single day, (including one 25 footer, and that was fcuking memorable) than I would ever get surfing.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Good day today. The last 2 days promised good swell and conditions, but it was pretty bad, cleaning up and working fitfully on the low tide. Today at 6am it also looked unspectacular, but by 7am it looked ridable. I got out at 7:30am, glass, only a few learners in the water, but the first overhead s...
