Re: Bells Beach

I firmly stand by my comment that without JJF (and, OK, Medina too) this so-called day of days would have been reduced to a freak show, notable only for the apparent inability of the professionals either to plan for or to surf in a scoreable fashion waves that were outside of their comfort zones an...

It's only showing 5 stars on my website page??????
Change from the 7 day forecast to the 48 hour forecast. Its the 7am one.

I must admit that I thought it was out of 5 stars too for years, over 5 is pretty rare.

Re: Bells Beach

surf forecast says WSW 35 kph (side off). 3 stars out of 10 about right. I'd surf it if I was desperate, ie. if I was a weekend surfer in Oz. I'd even surf it on the bukit, there'd probably only be 2 people out.

Re: Bells Beach

It was a bit like getting up and all kitted out for a surf without checking the forecast and finding it crap, then realising I should have looked at the forecast first and gone back to bed. Much more common to have the opposite experience, as per Bells. An over-hyped forecast that fails to deliver....

Re: Bells Beach

Steve, a while ago you asked, essentially iirc, whether my injuries were overuse/age related and the answer is no, the rotator cuff tears are a result of the bike accident. The spinal degenerations are however caused by age and use, but it seems that while they may cause problems later on, they are ...

Re: Bells Beach

Hmmmm, big swell for Bells? Surf forecast is calling 2000kJ at 10am, 4500kJ at 4pm, and peaking at 6000kJ (10') tomorrow at 7am but dropping off quickly. I'm not familiar with Bells but on the Bukit that is a pretty average dry season forecast with a relatively short time above 4000kJ. Best describ...

Margaret River forecast for today: swell 23' at 16s, 25,000 kJ

The Ulus swell last year was 17,000kJ, so around 50% more powerful

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Just about every long-timer I met in Roti had been to Vanimo at some time or other. In general, they liked it, but none of them went back. Which doesn't mean its bad, just not as good as Roti (which, now that I don't go there any more, I can say is pretty awesome) Its an easy journey from Kupang, an...

Sounds like a terrific combo Cranked. No warmth benefit of course

You are exagerating GSTQ. As long as you don't go in the water its the warmest combination around.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Speaking as someone who hasn't actually surfed in a wetsuit for 2 years or more, I must say I'm still in favour of my long johns teamed with a fcuking FRONT zip long sleeve top to make it even easier!

Sometimes when I'm back home in winter I put them on and take them off just because I can.

Re: Sumba

Our flight from Bali to Tambolaka got cancelled by Garuda citing “Operational Reasons”. We’ve had to rebook that leg with Wings Air. I’ve googled, tripadvisored and all that. Seems we’ll be stung 200,000 rups per board each way. Does anyone have actual experience in terms of board lengths you’ve ha...
