Re: Single fin shortboards

I suppose you just get used to, and even like, whatever you're riding. IF you get to have a go in good waves... I surf intermittently, so the idea of being able to rely on drawing out a few cutties (as opposed to trying aerials, tail slides...) no matter what the surf's like or how I'm feeling, is a...

Re: Single fin shortboards

Is a single fin shorty a good option for carving through small, choppy windswell??? I ask because I imagine: - the fin depth holds it into the wave through bumps. - the fin flex can maximise drive. - the small/shortboard amount of surface area can be pumped across smaller waves easier, to generate s...

Shearer, what do you mean? Water looked clear in the media. Was there a little backshore lagoon washed out and draining tanin stained water or something?

Re: winter fourteen

Hmmmmm. So the rewards are there for those who are eternally vigilant. Or lucky. Even chart watching and Google Earthing will only get you so far... oh well, that's part of the fun I suppose, taking what you can get and learning to ride in various conditions

Re: winter fourteen

:?: general question here, as I've been prompted* to ask when thinking about the last ECL and where I surfed compared to reports of best Kirra in years etc... Does sand on the points play a more or less equally important role in surf quality during a large windswell, close, mid and long range ground...

Re: winter fourteen

Cheers Trev. MM I might've had one of them suss me out on Tues when the water was clear, but yesterday it was grey. Did it manage to get a grip on ya? Also, should I report this for stats somewhere? Lastly, re weather/surf: E seems to have (by ear report) peaked Mon AM. Tu/We might've been 6 max jus...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Alright cheers yeah it's pretty old as I got it at an outlet store for cheap and didn't use it for a while. So the tape perished almost straight up and the stitching is a bit rough. Got an outtie belly button too. Just gonna finish the vasso first.

Re: winter fourteen

Reading this is more painful than the shark bite I got, little grey one waggled up out of the sandy broth for a taste. Waiting for surgery; very minor tendon damage and two deep gashes on the hand, actually not that bad at all. The mission alone was worth it but, only thing I didn't have was epic po...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Cheers Zingo, yeah do have to do the straight drop sometimes, but usually just bail cos I don't really wanna risk busting fins on the shoreline sand... Anyway, PRE-CHAFING. After weeks out of the water, I can see my sessions being shortened and paddle rounds being slowed by (steamer) chafe. Any tips...
