Re: Just general surfing stuff

Longtom on Beachgrit is refusing to cover one more Freshwater Pro.
One of things he can’t do again is he “Can’t watch ’em squat down for that tube.”

I agree. Watching them squat down for that tube is the most dispiriting sight in surfing.

Re: The Tulla Tub

It’s going to be interesting to see what they charge. Is there a sweet spot between affordability and profitability?

Re: Just general surfing stuff

There’s some very skilled surfing going on, but with the mechanical wave, the rides just seem like busywork. Watching it is deadening.

Re: Global Warming

“John Coleman, meteorologist and founder of the Weather Channel.” And when John Coleman says meteorologist, what he means to say is that he has absolutely zero tertiary educational qualifications in meteorology or any other field of science. He means to say that he was just a TV weatherman, the stuf...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

As I understand it, in the Hawaiian scale the conversion factor slides with size.
So, a 6 foot wave may be 10 to 12 feet imperial, but a 20 - 25 feet wave is probably around 25 - 35 imperial.

I see a subtle downgrade due to duration limited fetch but a very much better outlook for Teahupo'o
“Teahupo'o”
Steve, why the apostrophe?

Re: Just general surfing stuff

6-10ft Pipeline/Backdoor may be the most dangerous wave in the world, but the WSL guys surf it on pretty much the same board as they surf Snapper. That’s a lot different board to a 9 foot rhino chaser which many of the WSL chaps would never have ridden before and their surfboard shaper doesn’t even ...

Loaned it to AJ to try out. Not odd.
Steve, don’t you loan boards to your mates so they can assess whether they like the shape?

I might be a bit alone, but I like Pottz as well. Consistent, kind of low key, but genuinely appreciative. Those noises he makes, the grunts and oohs behind Joe’s commentary when someone does a big manoeuvre is a good soundtrack for me. And then during the wave replay, the way he glowingly highlight...

You’ve probably all seen the JBay photos on Swellnet, but the second photo of Connor Coffin is an absolute classic JBay shot.

Swellnet also report that waves for the event are unlikely to be top JBay.
