Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Not a single surfer has been killed by a shark in Indonesia, nor has there been any serious injuries. :-D-: Some pretty gnarly injuries to hands at that certain rivermouth break in Bali. The locals have actively 'discouraged' talk about the last few attacks, there's been more than you'll find on so...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
which means it shouldn't be that hard to spot sharks near the surface, except those tend to be the ones just lolling about. Seems when they are in hunting mode they stay deeper.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Sharks and most any fish, even something as small as a bonito, are quite easy to spot even in deep water, if you have the benefit of height (hence gamefishing boat tuna towers) the water is clear, it's sunny and the subject is near the surface. A polarised filter over a drone camera lense helps imme...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
bomboraa it's a point but there's a lot of salmon out there. No lack of 'em offshore here that's for sure. The ocean's been more alive than ever. A hunch, there's more sub adult white sharks around now than there has been for decades. Protection began in the mid 1990s. These animals are 17-20 years...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Prime juvenile and sub adult great white fodder is the Australian salmon. Since 2011 pros have been able to net 224 tonnes a year of Aussie salmon north of Barenjoey. That's 2000 tonnes of "smaller" great white tucker - the stuff they hunt close to shore and even in thw wave zone - potentially gone....

Nets removed during whale migration time?
ABC had a brief gimpse of the tail of the guy's board; channel bottom twin. Been looking at Morning of the Earth Fiji twins and looked just like them.

Yep sea temps on those charts are from several kay's off Sydney. They are commonly different to temps at the beach. See it all the time on super accurate depth sounder's temp guage when out fishing. Really noticeable when a tongue of the EAC arcs in towards Sydney, getting within a few kays of the ...

Bali announces it will open up to international tourists on September 11.
If you can get there wonder if Gladys will by then be making you pay for the 2 week iso hotel stay upon return?
And how much the flights will cost?

Bit of chat about the behaviour of the white that killed the poor fella; its aggro and the way it went for the legend guys trying to get the victim to shore, and its refusal to leave the area. It's a timely reminder that they aren't shark computers, they don't follow an absolutely rigid programming....

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Plenty of gamefish stuck with dumb tags by game fishers in the NSW DPI program over the years have been recaptured. Are gamefish like marlin, tuna etc more "stupid" than sharks?
Would be interesting to see the shark recapture stats from DPI, though they are overwhelmingly makos and whalers.

Hey Cranked what's the water temp like? Was ridiculously cool bit north of Canggu when I was there in July/August, coldest in decades according to an old expat. The locals - really good surfers, not kooks - were in LS springsuits and even a few steamers!

Surfed thick open ocean swell down from Harbour to Long Reef and further north on a 6m glass cuddy + 4.6l V8 250 Merc. Friggin love when a good planing hulled boat feels a swell on its arse and starts running with it. Passing in close to Long Reef bombies and the box etc looked awesome in early morn...

Re: rear quad fins symmetry difference
Thanks all, and yep Mr Duck was wondering as an average Joe if I'd really feel any difference. Use FCS GXQs with 80/20 on a Simon rounded pin and enjoy but board I'm looking at has Futures and noticed many of their rear quads are symmetrical foiled. Had a HP swallow tail quad years and years ago wit...

rear quad fins symmetry difference
How much difference between 80/20 foiled and symmetrical foiled rear quad fins?
For a short fattish rounded pin _ sorta hypto krypto like shape.
The rear Futures boxes are McKee-ish placed.
For waist to head high surfing.

Mate's super accurate depth sounder registered 16.1C close in off DY. Harbour around Rushcutters was 13.2C.
