Re: Ask Carroll

I read Chas book " Welcome to paradise, ....."

Once finished, i thought it was quite well written. At first he instantly grated on me, to the point of not wanting to continue, but the topic was something i so wanted to know more about, that I soldiered on.

+1 be interested in your thoughts Nick.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

4.5m Ali CC with a 50hp . 60 litre underfloor and we had 4 jerry cans. used 90 litres all up. Refueled inside Swansea Heads, then topped up again near Nelson Bay. The roughest part was the start actually...Rose Bay to Terrigal, nothing but rocky headlands and small sand stretches, so lots of wave bo...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Did a interesting trip on Monday this week. Small 4.5m boat, from Rose Bay upto Seal Rocks.. 230 ks by sea, took just on 8.5 hours hugging the coast. Been waiting for the right conditions, small South swell, with light offshore winds....it was magic. Some amazing beach breaks along the way with not ...

Re: Ask Carroll

I would agree that swimming is more beneficial for surfing then paddling the Clubbie board. It is just that I dont blink a eye at jumping on the clubby when i have a spare hour , whereas getting out of bed to swim the black line wore off in my teen's...plus I get to do it with the kids as they board...

Re: Ask Carroll

+1 to the Clubby race mal. I did a lot of this last year from August thru to April, and was the fittest in quite some years.....just got back on it over the weekend on both days with the small waves, where generally I wouldnt be bothered paddling out. Just got a new fishing boat on weekend, so will ...

Re: Ask Carroll

cranked I should have mentioned "feel" in paddling, it's something I work on a lot with my super grommet squad when you're paddling effectively, you won't necessarily feel as if your hand is slipping through the water past your board -- you'll feel more as if you're lifting the board past your hand...

Re: JBay.

Yep, i think J-Bays aura in the 70's was only really justified from the combination of having Shaun and then Pottz, and that 94.38% of the waves NC mentions not having been "discovered". The world surfing map has expanded materially since the JBay days...

Re: Ask Carroll

Bargain !! I have got a BRT race mal, but been belted around a bit now, mainly from me paddling out with the cans and anchors for kids training, so I will keep that one for training, and look for a real one if i get back into my own paddling once again. Over there I paddled a Joe Bark carbon 12', 12...

Re: Ask Carroll

Nah, bit hard mate....time is hard enough to find, let alone crossing the Channel to train !

I would be going prone not SUP as well, but thanks for asking. Will need to chat to Brad regarding a board.

Re: Ask Carroll

Nick Just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii the other day, one of the best days was hooking up with Mike Takahashi up at Sunset and doing some downwind paddling on some Molokai boards. Small NW swell popped the day we were there ( last Sunday ), so not ideal paddling into it with the prevailing E win...

Maui in June

G'day. Heading to Hawaii for family break next week...6 days in Maui, staying just near Lahaina on west coast. Wife and 2 kids ( 12 yr olds ), we are just taking a short board each, then rent a mal if desperate and small. Any sights or attractions that are must see's or must do's in Maui, I've never...

Re: Ask Carroll

Some good observations there mate, suspect your line of thinking has certainly been a good contributor to the current decline of brand power....on-line in all it's forms has certainly caught most of our generation napping.
