I find that I appreciate the thruster more after having a few sessions on a singly. For me make sure the waves have a bit of length in them so you can get the flow going and not just one turn closeouts. I find that my technique improves after being on a single, I stay lower to the board and tend to ...

Many years ago, I was working (I should say employed as noone really worked) for a branch of the public service. This one guy in the office was a bit of a pyshotic egomaniac but as it was the public service it was generally tolerated by managers. Not long before a federal election, this guy was spou...

Bro - Not wanting to get in a slanging match but.... I was the first person to raise the $90 boardshort question. Not an uninformed comment but a question from a surfer on why they cost so much. There was no uninformed comment or an assumption of a $1 cost price. I'm a CFO by day so understand marin...

Been there grazza, I'm doing a stint with work in NZ at the moment living in Auckland about 30 minutes from closest surf beach so limited to weekend surfs at the mo. Had been doing a lot of running and gym work to keep fit. Last winter, I went to Muriwai beach... west coast beachie with 6 - 8 foot s...

I've been following this one with a bit of interest and looking forward to the responses NC.

Also waiting to see if Grazza was going to ask something; I would have thought he would have a few zingers to raise.

And how do they balance their grass roots beginnings (picture Gordon Merchant, Bruce Raymond et al) and visions for their businesses when they started with the demands of institutional investors who only want a return on investment? And do they even care?

Perhaps the panel of surfing journo's already know the answer, and I can probably guess but how much independence and free speech is there in the surf media? Given that publications such as Tracks & Waves (haven't read either in a long time) seem to be more advertising brochures than surf mags and t...

How about the following -

Apart from the token gestures already done, are they putting any profits towards helping the industry not being so environmentally unfriendly ie The toxicity of the modern day surfboard?

How do they justify a simple pair of boardshorts costing nearly $90?

Its all in the technique..... Get on a single fin for your next five surfs and then jump back on your thruster. NC would be a better judge but I have always thought that learning on a thruster meant that you kind of skipped a stage of your surfing development. Having said that, there's shitloads of ...

A few years ago, the ASL crew came out with a mag called "Deep". It only lasted a few issues but it had to be one of the better surf mags I've read in the last 10 years. When Tracks used to be the old paper style it took me a couple of days to get through. The last time I read Tracks it took me 1 ho...

The annoying things about Northern Beaches are trying to get home after midnight if you've been in the city. Trying to get up or down the coast on a Friday night after work.

I moved over from WA a couple of years ago for work and have been living in Manly. Yes I'm getting shafted for rent but I think everyone in Sydney does. Easy place to live though, Jetcat to the city in 15 mins when its working. Early and arvo surfs and good pubs so don't need much more. Although lea...
