Re: The Good Luck A Number One McCoy Thread

Time to resurrect this thread. Last year I mainly rode the Zots and my wave count in all wave sizes went up dramatically. I was suddenly in the game of pulling the primo waves in up to double overhead conditions in the B team line-up. Towards the end of the year I bought two poly Nuggets, a 6'8 and...

Re: Get this!

How did you test them - just stick them on a board and surf? I surfed them myself, but that is only good for basic strength testing. I don't surf well enough to be quite certain which fin is better than another, if both fins are good fins. It turns out that none of the fins I surfed myself were act...

Re: Get this!

I have experimented with basically 4 outlines and then permutated them through multiple different foils, thicknesses, thickness distributions, and different numbers of tubercles.

For each of the sea-worthy fins in the photo there were multiple precursors that never made it anywhere near the ocean.

Re: Get this!

How big are they? How do they improve on existing templates? 194cm^2 area Depth 250mm Main improvements: Very high aspect ratio but 'Curviness' everywhere. Designed using finFoil https://finfoil.io/ until it looks most pleasing to my eyes (which is a long and slow process). It results in very high ...

Re: Get this!

Oh well, I'm going to make my own fins from now on. Roy told me he has stopped producing the printed polycarbonate fins. Here we are, 21 months later, and I have developed and produced a fin. I call it the GullWhale fin: GullWhale-7-S-11mm.png The ride reports are extremely encouraging. GullWhale-7...

I don't even have a Zap, too hard to surf for my mediocre abilities.

Roy is not the only one who thinks that BLEF fins are very efficient but hard to manufacture: See this Video starting from 0:24:30 .

DARPA had a play around with bumpy fins: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vICFah-aDFY

Re: Geoff McCoy Surfboards Collectors Corner

Would the double ender be good for weak summer longboard type waves??. Single fin Yeah, absolutely, the difference between the TSA 6'8 and the 7' was huge, but its not a mal by any means. I have 3 2+1 boards that I ride around Perth (6'4 fat arsed wombat, 7'10 Takayama egg and a custom 7' pin tail ...

Re: Ask Carroll

Thank you very much Nick, it was a most interesting read. Hope you got something out of it as well.

If you get to try out a McCoy one day, I'd still like to know what you think about it.

Ciao! I'm out of here, too.

Re: New Generation Composite McCoys

Sorry MrMic, but you're going to hate me. I've owned four Surftech 7'11'' single fins over the last 10 years, the most recent about 4 months ago. Even took one to Indo and surfed good waves on it. They've always been disappointing, for me they offer a very restricted performance subset of a McCoy t...

Re: New Generation Composite McCoys

Nice mate hues it ride? The wooden McCoy got some stiff competition soon after I finally got it: The fabled 7'11 Surftech Single Fin Nugget. I had been chasing one for years and did not think I'd ever get one. Well. I did! So, I have been surfing the Surftech much more often than the wooden version...
