Re: Mentawai quiver.

Seems like a fair old trek for sub-Maldivian 2-3 ft. No wonder you spent most of your time sinking piss

Yeah well, from my (mercifully brief) encounters with Australians in the line-up,

Did you have a bad experience Godsave?

In the Maldives?

Come on, come clean.
There's no need to get all defensive, I didn't mean you. I'm sure you're a delight to surf with

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Yeah well, from my (mercifully brief) encounters with Australians in the line-up, this is pretty common among your low intermediate to reasonably competent surfers typically accompanied with a taciturn sense of entitlement, so I wouldn't get on your high horses about other nationalities. That may be...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Very hard to not have aggressive behaviours play out in front of witnesses on tbe east coast of Australia. And i still feel very squeamish about having this issue directly conflated with domestic violence. Violence, aggression and territoriality in surfing have been present for a long time, maybe s...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I think the last time I saw any abuse in the water was when the local fat bully (rightly) gave me a bollocking for ditching my board in front of him instead of duckdiving. That was 1986

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Well, judging by "Annie*, also in her mid-30s, has experienced plenty of verbal abuse" and "Briella*, 24, is a highly skilled Sydney surfer who says she had “dealt with just heaps of sexist crap throughout the years" and "Byron-raised surfer and University of Queensland lecturer Rebecca Olive says s...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

If the incidents in Nick's article occurred as reported (and we have no reason to suspect they didn't) then they were pretty clearly triggered by the men involved being unable to cope with women in the lineup ("fuschia chick", "why are you chicks even in the surf" etc etc). It's impossible to specul...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Nothing. There's a pretty small population of competent female surfers here anyway and I always do my best to surf where the crowds aren't. (Of course, I'm excluding kids messing about and adult learners from this. The gender split seems near enough 50:50 in that cohort)

Re: Just general surfing stuff

There's a report that was published last month that found that 43% of Australians hold traditional views of women. I would post a link but well, you know

I didn't say they don't surf, just that they don't surf where I do

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Never. But then there's almost never women in the water at the breaks I surf. I wonder if this is mainly a feature of countries* like Australia and most of South America with 'traditional' attitudes towards women (the little woman should be protected from herself by the big strong male) where some b...

Oh well, never mind. It's in the 'wave models' thread, seven below this one. It's only a two-pager and nobody mentions dinner

Re: Where did you surf today ?

did you just link to another thread on Realsurf in your own real surf post? to back up your own point? Indeed. As it's Realsurf's only dispassionate non-hysterical evidence-based evaluation of the effectiveness of magicseaweed's forecasting, there's a pretty strong argument to linking to it on a we...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Well, as I concluded after my hard hitting investigative journalism in the wave models thread (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34569&start=18), it's not 100% accurate but it's good enough
